ROFF4ST is an updated version of ROFF4 v1.61. The compiled version

included on this disc is for an ATARI ST. If you wish to run it on some

other machine, load ROFF4ST.H into your favorite editor and alter the

six #defines that configure the low-level I/O functions to machine and

compiler. Then compile and link the lot. The included MAKFILE is for

compilation using Mark Williams C. It may or may not meet the needs of

your C's MAKE (that is if you have one, if MAKE doesn't meaning anything

to you, ignore it).

There are two document files included, each is in two forms. The first form

has the suffix .ROF and is for printing with the use of ROFF4ST. The

second form (suffix TXT) is a straight ASCII file which can be sent

straight to the printer.

The files ROFF4.ROF and ROFF4.TXT are slightly altered versions of

the original ROFF4 v1.61 documentation.

The files ROFF4ST.ROF and ROFF4ST.TXT contain the update information and

are essential reading as they list modifications and additions to the

original.

To print a file using ROFF4ST use the following format when using a

Command Line Interpreter:

     R4ST <options> filename(s) <specials> <output destination(s)>

The simplest format is:

                             R4ST filename

which will send 'filename' to the screen.

The commonest format is

                        R4ST mydef filename ")"

where mydef is a file that defines your printer default options (if

omitted the compilation defaults will operate). This sends 'filename' to

your printer. Note that ')' needs to be replaced by ']' if you are using

the alternate printer channel (serial on the ATARI ST). The quotes round

the I/O string are not necessary (and might even be wrong on some) on

most systems.
