My dear wife, Martha and I spent some years in Alaska where
we served as missionaries. I grew to greatly appreciate
the very fascinating history of the great Alaskan frontier
and set out to write as entertaining a book as my limited
talents would allow. I wanted to write a book that would be
entertaining without undue immorality. I think readers can
be entertained by story content without profanity and
displayed sex. I have achieved this in FREEDOM BAY. I did
portray what some may think is excessive violence. Without
trying to make unaccepted excuses, I remind the reader that
the frontier days of Alaska was conceived in violence from
the Russian occupation to the gold rush. Although the story
is based on fiction, I have tried to write as much history
into the story as possible. The Valfreia was a real vessel
which my great uncle owned when he died in England in 1926.
Although this author is as poor as the well known church
mouse, my great uncle had a treasure of many millions of
dollars, which is another story of what happened to all his
money when he died. I needed a good character for the
leading part of my story so guess what? I used "Uncle" in
the roll of Bayard Nelson. At least I got something out of
all that money. I hope you enjoy this book.
