The letter below was received 11/22/93 from a computer enthusiast. Please read
the letter, then, my comments (*) following the letter.

"Dear Sirs,

     Greetings from Romania!
You will be surprised to get a letter from a perfect stranger. My name is
Stanculescu Marin and I like computers. I could say that they are my hobby,
but I don't think I could ever afford to buy one. Pleas publish my name and
address in your computer magazine and ask people if they could provide any kind
of computer donation.
Also, I would like to subscribe to your magazine, but I don't know how to
do it.

                                       Yours Sincerely,

                                            Stanculescu Marin

P.S. My ad text: "Donate your used computer to a really isolated computer
enthusiast in Romania."
                                   Many Thanks!

* Remember how glad we were when "The Iron Curtain" fell? We all watched the
news, daily, with anticipation and hope. Well, "The Curtain" is gone, and
those who were once hidden away behind it are now reaching out to the rest of
the world! Remember, most have lived in abject poverty and tyranny all their
lives and some, like our `computer friend' above want to express themselves and
their creativity through computers!

There is an enormous barrier to such ones - money and goods! It takes 6 of
their monetary units to match 1 of ours, and they stand in line to get bread
and meat. Unders these conditions, imagine the possibility of someone getting
a computer!

We rush to our fellow human's side to aid during a disaster, people get "in the
spirit of giving" once or twice a year, what about now?

If anyone has an older model computer `just setting around' gathering dust, why
now rekindle "the spirit of giving"?

For anyone who would like to send a computer overseas, check with your local
post office for proper packing instructions, label the outside, "DO NOT X-RAY",
along with FRAGILE. Send a copy of this, THE FREEBIE NEWSLETTER along with
the computer with a note on where Stanculescu can read this text.
