YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN MOVIES FOR HOME OR BUSINESS!

Regular videotape can be an effective tool, but not in it's plain, unedited
form. To edit a videotape, you need video editing software. A new program
called Gold Disk's VideoDirector for Windows takes clips from a camcorder then
assembles them into a snazzy home movie or business videotape. Then, this
program will transfer the finished product onto a VHS tape.

Most of the video editing systems around need costly equipment or must rely on
a computer with high-end hardware that digitizes the video signal and then
stores it on a hard disk.

With VideoDirector, you can skip the more complicated and expensive process,
because it works directly with your camcorder's analog signals. Mostly, it
works with Hi-8 camcorders that have a LANC (Control-L) connection but it will
work with any VHS deck that has an infrared remote control.

You can control both the camcorder and the VCR from your computer with Video-
Director's serial "SmartCable"!

Making the movie is a snap! Just view the videotape on a TV or a TV-format
monitor, mark the start and end points of the clips you want to save and give
them a descriptive name. Then, trim and arrange video clips into scenes into a
final production that is recorded directly to your VHS deck.

You can keep track of various clips from different tapes, merge a new tape into
the database or remove clips you've already done.

VideoDirector lists for $199.95. It Requires Microsoft Windows 3.1, video
overlay board or separate monitor, camcorder with LANC (Control-L) socket,
a VCR with infrared or computer control.

TIRED OF WAITING ON WINDOWS COMMUNICATIONS?

Well, Hilgraeve, the makers of the DOS and OS/2 communications programs has
finally brought a leader product on Windows! They now offer HyperAccess for
Window ($199) which has all the features you'd expect form a top-notch
communications package.

The newest HyperAccess also has some features that you'll only find in Windows
communication packages. This includes a real-time virus scanner that can
automatically scan files as they're being downloaded (however; as yet it
doesn't handle compressed files), and it is unique in that it has
multithreading-like capabilities. HyperAccess for Windows has a built-in C
interpreter, instead of using a proprietary scripting language, so C
programmers can use their favorite language to create complex communication
applications!

The technology HyperAccess for Windows uses is called Modular Communications
Engine (MCE). MCE divides the program into three modules - (1) file transfer
and terminal emulation, (2) low-level I/O, and (3) and user interface that
talks directly to the communications driver.

File transfers using both the Zmodem and CompuServe B+ protocols, were 10% -
15% faster than those of ProcommPlus for Windows.

Even though HyperAccess is very powerful it remains one of the easiest
communications programs to use. Phonebook entries default to icons, which you
may change to informative text by clicking on a toolbar icon. Choose from a
number of scripts for on-line services or use the dialog box for defining new
ones. Establish default settings for new sessions and make global changes to
fit all existing sessions through a menu option.

There is also full drag-and-drop support under Windows 3.1. Upload files by
dragging their icons from the File Manager screen onto the upload dialog box.

HyperAccess for Windows is powerful enough to satisfy even the most demanding
user, yet is simple enough for the novice.

Requires: 2MB of RAM (4MB recommended), 1.7MB hard disk space, Microsoft
Windows, Version 3.0 or later. Hilgraeve Inc., Genesis Center, 111 Conant
Ave., Suite A, Monroe, MI 48161. Tel. 800-826-2760, or 313-243-0576

FIRST LOOKS AT LIGHTENING SPEED CD!

Even the fastest CD-ROM drives move at a turtle's pace when compared to most
hard drives. Even though new drives feature improved data transfer rates and
faster access times, they still need to be speeded up.

Lucid Corp. is introducing Lightening CD, a CD-ROM cache utility which
addresses the speed problem by watching the read request you make from the
drive and then stores frequently accessed data in memory. The next time you
need the information, Lightning CD reads it from the cache, rather than from
the slower drive.

Lightning CD can even remember the results of searches or disk reads, and
recalls data quickly. Lightning CD searches quickly covering entire, large
articles which takes 5-8 seconds the first time it is read to a barely
measurable 0.6 seconds once the data is in the cache!

The benefits for games and other applications is significant. Also, Lightning
CD's intelligent "read-ahead" capabilities can anticipate the next area that
will be read by the application and then it can load data into RAM while the
application is using current data. This can help reduce the pauses that
normally occur when a program has to read from disk.

Lightning CD replaces Window' SMARTDRV and acts as the only cache in the
system. Don't let this frighten you because it does a good job, it can even
cut down Windows launch time from 2 minutes to 68 seconds!

It may require a little memory tuning, but it yields no surprises under
Windows. That is something which may be of great benefit on your system.

Lightning CD has Disk Watch, a utility which flashes the drive letter on the
screen whenever the system issues a read request to the hard drive. This lets
you know that the cache is working properly. Lightning CD also has LKey which
speeds up keyboard performance; and LScreen which speeds up screen performance
on systems that don't use ANSI.SYS.

With this utility, you can also use the tree-deletion utility that deletes the
contents of a directory and all subdirectories under it.

When you order Lightning CD, you also get Best of the Bureau, a CD-ROM with
samples of products published by the Bureau of Electronic Publishing.

Lightning CD lists at $99.95
