TrashCan is a simple utility designed to take advantage of MS Windows
3.1's Drag-and-Drop interface. When using the File Manager along with
TrashCan you can easily drag files from the File Manager to the TrashCan
and have them deleted.

The configuration screen in TrashCan allows you to select a .WAV file
to be played when a file(s) is deleted. When configuring you will be given
a choice of any .WAV files in your Windows directory. Included in this
archive is a sample .WAV file of glass breaking that can be copied to your
Windows directory and used by TrashCan.

Three levels of prompting are available. No prompt, prompt when a deletion
is to occur, or prompt on each file to be deleted.

Incinerator Mode relates to how files are deleted. When Incinerator mode
is on and a file is deleted then it's gone (it may be possible to recover
with a utilities package such a Norton Utilites). When Incinerator Mode
is off (the default) the option to undelete is given. Essentially files
are not really deleted, but rather hidden. TrashCan marks them as hidden
files, so if you have File Manager set to show hidden files you will
still see them. Empty Trash will dispose of them for good.
I have seen another utility that does a similar thing, but rather than
mark them as hidden it creates a sub-directory and marks the file as deleted
without freeing it's data. Not only does it not delete the file, it consumes
more disk space is the process!? In other words, try deleting files from a
disk that's full or try recovering the file without using their utility
(Norton Utilities gets a little upset).
Just how to delete a file and ensure that it can be recovered springs
much debate...I settled on the simpler approach of marking them as hidden
because I believe it to be safer.

Empty Trash allows files to REALLY be deleted.

If you like TrashCan and use TrashCan, please register. Shareware is
a great idea that only works if people pay for the software they use.
If we receive few registrations we can only conclude that either the
public didn't like the program, or that people don't pay for what they
use. We'd like to stay in business writing the best possible software,
but can only do so with your help. And, of course, comments, suggestions,
criticism, and praise are always welcome. After all, it's when the customer
and the producer get together that generates the best software.
To register please send $10.00 to the above address and you'll receive
the latest version of this utility that includes no built-in advertising.

                                        Thanks,
