    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

ZAP UPDATES ZAP program update history.

    - January 1, 1993 ZAP v.2.20; made less noisy for Windows.

    - January 1, 1992 ZAP v.2.10; 'finishing touch' release.

    - October 10, 1991 ZAP v.2.00 adds a new memory swapping
                                   routine for the [D] DOS SHELL command;
the Dos Shell command now attempts to
swap the base memory used by ZAP to:

                                   1. EMS memory, if available.
                                   2. The drivespec defined by the TEMP
                                      or TMP environment variables.
                                   3. The default drive and directory.

Edit mode's [aF] FILTER ASCII command is
extended to cover data and text entered
by the user. If filtering is ON, only
                                   characters in the displayable range,
0x20 to 0x7E, are shown in the Ascii
display. Codes outside of this range
                                   are shown as a dot.

                                   A command line help switch is added;
ZAP /? as per DOS. A command line edit
switch is also added; /e. Use the help
                                   switch for further details.

    - July 1, 1991 ZAP v.1.05 adds a change drive option
to the [L] LOAD FILE command. This
release of ZAP also corrects some more
programming bugs in ZAP.EXE; my thanks
                                   again for the positive feedback:

                                   - a zero entered in the hex display did
not show as a . (dot) in the Ascii
                                     display per ZAP standards, fixed.
                                   - the pgdn key would incorrectly move
                                     ZAP's current file offset pointer
to beyond the EOF of a file smaller
                                     than 4K bytes, fixed.
                                   - the [D] DOS SHELL command would save
and then restore the current drive
and directory. This is changed to
                                     allow drive and directory changes
                                     during your Dos excursions.

                                   .../v.1.05 release note continues

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

ZAP UPDATES ZAP program update history continued.

If you use a disk caching program and
ZAP, then you should ** temporarily **
disable the disk cache if, repeat, IF:

                                   - you will use ZAP to perform searches,
make data edits, and wish to perform
                                     searches again - more specifically,
                                     searches for any edited data.

ZAP's search routines can not find
recently edited data if the pre-edit
data was previously cached. There is
no danger here, only the annoyance of
seeing the data not found message.

                                   Full-featured disk caching programs
will allow you to disable and enable
caching via a command line parameter
                                   or via a keyboard hotkey.

    - April 20, 1991 ZAP v.1.04 corrects a few programming
bugs in ZAP.EXE and ZAPCOLOR.EXE; my
thanks to those who provided feedback:

                                   - if a file larger than 64K bytes was
loaded from the command line, the
                                     block count was wrong, fixed.
                                   - if unable to load a file specified on
the command line, the file name was
retained on the status line, fixed.
                                   - if the drive was changed during a Dos
shell, unable to load files, fixed.
                                   - first directory in the root directory
                                     was missing, fixed.
                                   - if the time was less than 1300 hours,
time was shown as AM, fixed.
                                   - ZAPCOLOR allowed a color code greater
than 127 to be entered, fixed.

ZAP v.1.04 is released to the world BBS
                                   network via CompuServe and PDN.

    - March & April 1991 ZAP v.1.00 through v.1.03 is released
to the Calgary BBS network and evolves
                                   into its present form.
