                             MINI DOC FOR AUTODOC
                             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AUTODOC.EXE is a large, fascinating, wonderful, easy-to-learn program.  It has
been developed to be learned intuitively.  This means you learn it by using it.
What better news could there be, when you receive a new program?  No tiresome
manual to plod through . . . the fun, and the results, will begin right away!
In a nutshell, the whole idea behind AutoDoc is this:  Now you will be able to
easily and quickly prepare materials which others may view on their computer
screens -- information enhanced by attractiveness in the form of colorful,
customized DecorEdge Bord`rs, plus large-font headings and titles.  This is
called TIG or Text In Graphics.  DOC.COM, which displays part of this text on
the screen, is a TIG file.  To run it type DOC <Enter>.
Load AutoDoc by typing its name and pressing your Enter key.  If this is your
first time, a "one time only" information screen will appear.  After the color-
ful sections of the title screen move into position, the main menu appears.
Press C for Create.  The Bord`r design screen appears.  Review the basic
designs by pressing up or down arrow keys.  When you settle on a design, press
"Esc" to lock it in.  If you choose a customizable design press C and the
custom-designing screen appears.  Use arrow keys to move the cursor to any
character and press "Enter."  At once you see the Bord`r design as it appears
with your chosen character.  Try other characters to observe the effects.  When
you find one you like press "Esc" to lock it in.  There are over 2OO choices!
The next screen permits selection of Bord`r colors from over 12O combinations.
(If using a monochrome system these screens are skipped). Review color combina-
tions by moving the cursor from number to number. Each number is colored, mak-
ing it easy to know its two corresponding colors (foreground and background).
Press "Enter" to view your DecorEdge Bord`r in various color combinations as
you choose different numbers.  Press "Esc" to lock in the colors you like best.
The next screen is nearly identical to the last.  It allows selection of the
color combination of your text area.  If you want the text to be displayed in
the same combination of colors as the Bord`r, move the cursor to the appropri-
ate number and press your Enter key.  To see other combinations of colors,
move to various numbers and press "Enter" each time.  Finally, press "Esc" to
lock in your text colors (chosen from over 12O combinations).
The screen now displays your six choices (five if you did not choose a custom-
izable Bord`r, or seven if you chose Bord`r No. 00 which has two customizable
portions - the Bord`r and its "shadow").  At this point you are ready to enter
the program's text editor, unless you decide to return to the main menu.  If
you return now your selections will be lost.  You are given an opportunity to
load a pre-prepared ASCII text file.  One is included on the disk for you; its
name is TRIAL.TXT.  To load it, press Y and then enter its name.  If you want
to type your own text, press N and type your text.  If you are anxious to see
finished results, type a few words and press "Esc" - then follow the directions
to save your file. Remember, AutoDoc is saving your DecorEdge Bord`r in a DEB
file, and your text in a DET (DecorEdge Text) file; each will have the same
name, of your choice, followed by the extension "DEB" or "DET."
After you create your first masterpiece in CREATE mode, go back to the main
menu and select REVIEW.  Here you may view your creation, as well as the
pre-fab DecorEdge Bord`r Scenes which are included.  What are they?  Wait until
you see them . . . they are fabulous.  And when you order the Pro Edition of
AutoDoc, you'll receive a lot more pre-fab Scenes to have fun with.
If you are using the Professional Edition of AutoDoc dated 1991 or later, and
if you have AUTOCOM on the disk, not only will the DEB/DET files be saved, but
a freestanding COM program will be created automatically.  If you also have
the program DIET on your disk your COM program will be "put on a diet" and made
as small as possible (i.e.: reduced in size to fewer bytes).  If you are using
an older edition of AutoDoc, or the shareware version, you must exit AutoDoc to
use AUTOCOM and DIET, if you have these programs.  After exiting, type AUTOCOM
and press "Enter."  When the screen appears type the first name of your DEB/DET
files into the box and press "Enter" again.  In seconds your COM is ready to be
used.  Type its name and see it flash to your screen!  Shareware AUTOCOM is
limited to a total of two screen pages.  The professional edition makes COM
programs up to 2O pages in length.  (DIET.EXE is a freeware program available
from CompuServe, various private BBSs, and shareware/freeware catalogs.)
You will also want to try the EDITOR mode . . . a built-in text editor, much
like a mini word processor. Yes, AutoDoc has one of those too!  And of course
you will want to display your text outside of the AutoDoc program.  To convert
your TIG creations into free-standing display programs requires the use of the
program ADVue (AutoDoc Viewer) or the program AutoCom (Automatic COM maker.)
Both of these are available from Rexxcom Systems.  To print out a chart of
information about these and other programs turn on your printer and type CHART
<Enter>.  To print out an order form type ORDER <Enter>.
AutoDoc will operate from a diskette in a floppy drive, but you will obtain
faster, smoother operation if you install it onto a hard drive as follows:
1. From the root directory of your hard drive type MD AUTODOC to create a new
directory named AUTODOC.
2. Place your AUTODOC floppy diskette in Drive A.  If you have a compressed-
file version, follow directions for extracting the files to the AUTODOC
directory on your hard drive.  If you have non-compressed files, from drive A
type: COPY *.* C:\AUTODOC (we are assuming your hard drive is drive C).
3. After the program and all the AutoDoc files are on the hard drive in the
AUTODOC directory, you are in business.  Use AutoDoc by first entering its
directory by typing CD \AUTODOC and pressing Enter.  Then type AUTODOC to run.
To use AutoDoc on a 360k diskette, have no files except the AutoDoc program and
its files.  Otherwise you will not have enough working space to create and save
your TIGs.
