General Description: Do you still have an old Xerox 4020 printer? Are
you wondering what to do with it? Now you can use it with Windows
(again). X4020.DRV is a Windows printer driver, that allows any
Windows program to print to the 4020.

Installation: Since you're reading this file, you've probably uncompressed
the archive, if not, put the files on a floppy or hard disk.
Start Windows and bring up the control panel. Now double click on the
printers icon to bring up the printers control panel. Press the
Add button. Highlight the "Install Unlisted or Updated printer"
entry in the listbox and press Install. This should open a dialog
box that prompts you to enter the location of the printer driver.
Enter the full path to X4020.DRV. When OK is pressed Windows will
install the printer driver. Once Windows is done, press the Connect
and Setup buttons to verify that the settings are acceptable.
Now you are ready to print in color.
Note: Have the Windows installation disks handy. Windows may request
one of the disks to install a font.

Windows 3.0 users: X4020.DRV should work with Windows 3.0, although
it has not been thoroughly tested. The driver requires two dynamic
link librarys that are included with Win 3.1. Microsoft has posted
these link libraries on their Download BBS ((206)936-6735) and on
Compuserv (go msl). They are called UNIDRV.DLL and DMCOLOR.DLL.
The easiest way to get them is to download a driver that is based
on the Universal Printer Driver, like X4020.DRV. Try downloading
    EP9.EXE.

Operation: Once X4020.DRV is installed it can be used like any other
printer. Just be sure it is selected before printing.

Bugs and Cavats: There are a few problems with the driver, but they
    can be worked around.
    1) Do not disable color printing on the Print Setup Options dialog
box. If color printing is disabled the driver will not work.
    2) The top margin may not get set correctly. To work around this,
position the paper manually so that printing starts at the
       correct place.
Hint: If you have difficulties printing on the desired portion
of the paper, try using 'Roll' as the paper size.

Authors Note: I wrote this printer driver, because I have a Xerox 4020
printer and I was real disappointed when Microsoft dropped their
support of the printer in Windows 3.x. The printer seems to work
fine, but it is no longer being produced. (Xerox still sells supplies
    for it.)
With the release of Windows 3.1 and the Universal Printer Driver,
a printer driver seemed within easy reach. It was for the most
part, but the Universal Printer Driver did cause it's own share
    of headaches.
Future releases will depend on my own needs and the number of
suggestions (and registrations) received from users. If you like
the driver and use it, please let me know.
