N-1-4-040.51, "User Services", by Joyce K. Reynolds*, Jan Gruntorad, head of Czech FESnet and an Eisenhower Fellow from CSFR for year 1992 visited Information Sciences Instititue on October 23rd, to learn about the site and current research projects. He met with Joyce Reynolds to be updated on the current events in the User Services Area of the IETF. Jan was provided with updates to the FYI (For Your Information) RFCs. Jan expressed the importance of the user services work going on in the IETF and how it has helped his colleagues in Czechoslovakia. They have specifically been taking various documents of interest in the FYI RFC series and translating them into the native Czech language. This helps students learn more about the Internet. RIPE meetings were held in Paris, France (30 September-2 October), where the NIDUS (Network Information Discovery for Users Support) Working Group held a session led by Nandor Horvarth. The NETF convened in Oslo, Norway (7-9 October). An information and user services session was led by Rolf Nordhagen. Among other topics of interest was the talk on distance learning in Scandinavia. Jill Foster ran a User Support Discussion Panel at the Network Services Conference 1992 in Pisa, Italy (3-5 November) which included a skit on, "Alice in Networkland". The RARE ISUS Working Group met during this conference. *Member of the Technical Staff, Information Sciences Instititue, University of Southern California
