U.S. SUPREME COURT OPINIONS AVAILABLE ON INTERNET The Supreme Court opinion files are available over the Internet and are a good example of how the Internet can be used for the distribution of information. Connect to host using anonymous FTP, and follow the instructions contained in the various README files. This is occurring under an experimental program called "Project Hermes" begun in 1990. The objective is to rapidly provide copies of the Court's opinions in electronic form to as wide an audience as possible. A consortium composed of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), EDUCOM, and the National Public Telecomputing Network (NPTN) is one of the implementing organizations of the project. The full text of the Court's opinions are available within minutes of their release without charge. Access is also provided at For those in the law field--whether lawyer or librarian--instant information over the Internet can be a boon. News item provided courtesy of: Richard J.
