Table sizes and etc. Altos SVR3.1 utilities worked better and generally
handled larger files than SCO 3.2 does; I could almost believe SCO built
everything sized for 286es.

With the old SCSI BIOS, you can't have more than two INT 13h devices in the
system. So when you already have two IDE disks, the SCSI BIOS will not
install any of the SCSI disks as INT 13h devices.

The newer BIOS (as found on the 1542C) seems to overcome this limitation,
but I have no detail on this (I have a 1542B)

You might look at mailsplit which is a shellscript available on Suns.

I've ordered a Best Fortress LI950 after sending back my APC Smart-UPS
900. Best is quite happy to have its specs available, without an NDA.
I've also heard that their quality is much higher. They are a little
more expensive, but I found a supplier who seels them at a reasonable
price: ProSource Power. They were quite pleasant when I sent back my
APC unit, and their price on both the APC and Best units was the best
I was quoted.

My Best unit hasn't come in yet (they didn't have it in stock) but so
far I've been pleased with them.

One nice thing about Best: APC made me buy a new surge supressor to
cover me under their warantee. Best is letting me keep my laser
printer and modem on my old Panamax surge supressor (one of the better
brands) and they will still cover the waranty. (This may or may not
have anything to do with the fact that Best oem's Panamax themselves
for their own surge supressors...)

No affiliation with any of the companies mentioned here...

On my system, I use the mgetty+sendfax package. mgetty is a

course, is handled by sendfax.  Both programs work with raw fax data;
such files can be created by Ghostscript and can be converted to

Hi, I have a 1GB hard drive that I use for dos/windows software and I have a 200 MB that I installed Linux on. lilo does not read my 1GB HD. So what I had to do is format the HD to 504, placed the linux on that drive. After installing Linux I had to re-partition my 1GB hard drive and now Linux does not see it. Any ideas please.

PS. my 1GB is Western Digital and it came with disk manager disk to partition the hard drive. Dos fdisk did not recognize the 1GB either.

Thank you,

If you please reply by e-mail and post.

I've got a Tripplite smart 900 UPS. Has anyone managed to control this
under linux? after a little manual reading, and experimenting I've got
what I think is the right cable, wiring rs232 RX,TX and GND to pins 7,
8 and 9 on the female db9 on the UPS.

but: I've no idea what the right baud rate is (if I use 2400, I get
characters echoed back. nothing does anything, just a straight
character echo).

So : does anyone else use one of these things under linux? or know the
approprite commands to use on it? or baud rate/cabling to use? or
anything!? \

Note that I'm in australia, so pointers to US phone numbers are less
than useful. :(

with 512k memory, 800x600x256 colour. The same machines are used
for the DOS-based X-kit server.

Most drawing operations appear much faster on XFree86, but the irregular

The same xfig pattern will draw in a fraction of a second when using the

Does this help? (Thanks to all those people who have suggested possibilities).

Oh yes - the problem still appears on an 8M machine

own test on executing Mail. Example :

"/tmp/test" [New file]

Whereas tkmail wants it like :

"/tmp/test" [New file] 8/78 (or some such thing)
& q

The mail I am using comes from slackware and is 5.5. The only other one I found

hangs on q and it won't recompile (tries to include gnu/.. headers for example)

Possibly. But there is still more overhead in emulating something else.

Oh, there are benefits, no doubt. But one should find that is is somewhat
slower, nonetheless, on similar hardware.

In that case, they are using different hardware. If you have a faster
