Security by obscurity does not work.

The hacker would possibly already know that, only you did not notice
you where vulnerable because noone told you.

Of course you should be aware of the fact that a pgp on a system that
you do not have 100% under control is a risk. You can read that in the
pgp-docs btw. And there is nothing to fix, because root can read the
kernel-memory anyway. If you cannot trust root, don't use pgp on his
machine. Period.

But it is of course better not to write it as a reciepe to use for
the ignorant, but rather a explicite warning...

Cheers, Michael Will

I have heard the same thing from many people. The AMD chips don't seem to
properly emulate some of the Intel functions. They can't run Ghostscript
under DOS, Windows or Linux. I had heard that it was only in some of the
EARLY 40 MHz 486 AMD chips, but since the 66 is fairly new, I guess it must
not have been fixed.

Of course, one has to wonder if AMD chips don't run Ghostscript properly,
what else don't they run properly? I guess maybe I'll stick to Intel.

Bummer. I hear AMD chips are cheaper AND faster than their Intel
counterparts.

You didn't say what Moniter you were using but you are very definately
playing with fire/smoke unless you have spent Many Dollars, Pounds, Lira
whichever for that kind of performance. 72 Hz refresh will require
a horizontal scan rate of 78Khz or higher. Then a dot clock of 120Mhz.
Although many new video cards support these, not many Moniters have
caught up. If your Moniter does, go for it but please check your Moniter
specs. Spoken by one who learned the hard way.

Once again, detail exactly which promises IBM broke, being very specific.
Vague claims of "gee, it's broke!" are not worthy of a reply.

Keep in mind that you had an option to return the package for every single

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding this discussion, but TCP is starting to look

To make this concrete by way of example, occasionally one sees the claim that
some TCP implementation on some Unix box supports, say, 1000 transactions per
second coming from uncounted thousands of clients. (We aren't talking about
clients keeping sockets open across transactions.) Does this mean the server
has 2000 sockets open at one time?

Actually, defrag 0.5 will do ext2. Here's a chunk from it's man page:

DESCRIPTION
Defrag will reorganise data on a minix file system parti
tion in order to improve the file system's performance.
Edefrag is the equivalent program for the extended file
system. E2defrag in its turn is designed for the second
extended file system (versions 0.3 and 0.4). And the Xde_
frag will operate on Xia FS filesystems.

The older versions of defrag (3,4) would not do ext2.

I hate to be the one to tell you to upgrade, but Linux SLS 1.00 is *old*.

I can't supply you a definitive answer to this but I can relate my
experience. Every X installation I have ever seen, even the ones at
work that cost thousands, produce a message of this type under the
circumstances you mentioned. I have never been able to determine if
there is anything that can or should be done about it but it doesn't
seem to indicate anything that is really wrong. I believe it is more
like a status message.

Can't help you here.

Good luck,

Subject: Linux ENCRYPTED fs? Does it exist?

Is there any way to have an encrypted [fs/directory-tree/partition/whatever]
under Linux? I'm looking for functionality similar to that provided by
programs like Norton DISKREET. I don't know what's out there, so
information on related products is appreciated.

Thanks.
