Hmm, and I just installed Linux for the city of Mankato.

I tell people that need my consultations that Linux is just a 'Free Unix'
and that seems to settle their minds about whether it is a 'safe' OS.

It is important to know that, unlike many of us net people, end user's
don't really care about the internals of the OS. They just want to be
able to do X, Y, and Z in an efficient and timely manner. If Linux can
do it cheaply, fine, if not, they'll go elsewhere.

Hi.. I just installed a BOCA (8 port) serial card in my machine. I
re-compilied the kernel with BOCA support as per instructions from the BOCA
FAQ. I set the IRQ on the card to 12.

Now when I run rc.serial, it finds /dev/cua0 and /dev/cua1 and then locks up.
I tried using SETSERIAL to automatically detect the card and ports to no avial.
Any help in this matter will be greatly appericiated.

Thanks

Well, basically you just install OS/2 first, (create a partition for
Linux with fdisk) find out what that partition is called with Linux
fdisk, initialize and all that, and tell LILO not to boot from the
first sector of the drive. That's all.

That is not true. We have used VP/IX for ages, since the Xenix days,
and the versions of VP/IX that have been available for the last couple of years
are pretty nice. They seem to chew up CPU time like 1/10th as much as the older
versions, and for the most part provide a FAR better DOS environment than
dosemu. Of course, VP/IX emulates a '286, so you can't run Windows in enhanced
mode, or use any software that requires 386 memory managers. But it works
great for character-based software on Wyse-60 terminals.
There are many features in VP/IX that are extremely usefull that
dosemu just doesn't have (at least the last time I looked), and that I
wouldn't want to have to do without (if I had to use VP/IX or dosemu
personally, which I don't).

Well all our QIC-02 drives / cards have connectors with two rows of

Interestingly enough our new SCSI Dat drive has a connector with _three_

The kernel on the boot/root diskettes has been compiled so that you

and the patches from patch14 to patch19 .
then patch, then recompile and when you are asked which file system your

What year is this? It is quite common knowledge that the growth of linux is
in exponential terms. Let me see if I can show a small example. A friend of
mine started running linux last year he got me interested in it. I was only
one of about 6 people he got to run it, but low and behold I did the VERY
same thing. I can personally count over 20 people who run linux and this is
here in the deep south (Huntsville, AL). Linux is a very competent OS and we
use it in a commercial setting we have had to gear our hardware purchases
towards hardware that was supported.

Great, That means that I have some chance of getting mine working.
I've got a 386/40 with a Seagate ST22M/ST1100M 80Meg MFM boot drive and a
PAS/16 with a Maxtor 340 Meg drive and a Toshiba 3401 attached. It also
has a dual serial card/parallel card and a Logitech bus mouse. This means
that all the low order interrupts are already used which the sound cards
want to use.

This hangs on the boot of the Yggdrasil floppy. I've ftp'd another
version which will boot from floppy but doesn't recognize either
of my hard disk controllers.

DOS and Windoze work fine as the driver can assign an interrupt to use
when initializing the sound board.
