Please reply in e-mail.

Can someone send me a FAQ or text-file about Linux that pertains to new users
and installation of Linux?

Don't tell me to FTP, because usually the files are archived, and I can't deal
with them.

I can't capture from newsgroups, considering I have to telnet to NNTP servers
and operate them manually, so reading a FAQ in there will do no good.

Thansk.

More specifically, look into /usr/src/linux/include/linux/mcd.h, there you can
set the IRQ number. Recompile, and it runs fine. At least it did on my system.
Pay attention to the DMA channel too. My Mitsumi adapter card came with DMA
channel 5 set per default. DMA 5 is normally used by Adaptec 1542 SCSI cards
(if you have one).

I forgot to mention that I'm using UMSDOS instead of a dedicated linux
partition. Could that be the reason? BTW, my system is a 486, and I
have a 4 MB swap file, of which less that 1 MB is being used.

Both are supported, and for both currently some brave guys are working to

No answer to the first question from me.
To the second: data, audio, photo.

No. Both drive families are supported since long ago.

Because maybe some day you would like to use a PhotoCD, and
maybe an other day you would like to just add a second drive,
and maybe because you want double-speed today.

Read /usr/src/linux/drivers/block/README.sbpcd before you decide
not to look for a Panasonic. ;-)

Hi,

Does anyone know where can I get the
MIT-SCHEME interpeter for the Linux os
(or the sources for the interpetor so I can
compile it for Linux) ?

And the same question about a PROLOG interpetor.

Thanks in advance,

Yep! Sure do. I got it from altdorf.ai.mit.edu. It's in the latetest dir there
something like 7.3 or something? in a file called linux.tar.gz. I have it up
and working fine on my linux box. One hint I'd like to offer in installing
it though is make sure all the directories are created for it before you run
the script they give you. I think I had to create one dir for it and then it
worked fine. (I can't remember which one off the top of my head.) If you
have any problems, mail me.

I am using the 6200HS with no problems. It does not seem to support
'seek' and 'tell'. Anyway, the 'mt' program is not reporting any real
status except for 'I/O error', I think the scsi tape driver is to blame
rather than 'mt'.

I get the expected performance (using an Ultrastor 14F, if it matters)
and am at the moment using tar (no compression of course). I think that
'afio' (is this the correct name for the 'cpio' clone that does single
file compression?) is the way to go if one wants higher capacity.

I am still on Linux 1.0 and things may be better on 1.1.16 (or
whatever).

In all this thread I don't see an argument to use Andrew's ez as a

don't build a word processor on top of it.

I am asking this because I am about configuring Linux "workstations" for

Waffle doesn't support subscriptions and you can't have individual UNIX

Support from the author also sucks.
