I'm looking for the LILO Technical Overview in PostScript format.
I've found the file lilo.t.12.ps.gz (version 0.12), but I'ld like
to have version 0.14.

The User's Guide is available in PostScript format (e.g., at
sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux/system/Linux-boot/lilo/lilo.u.14.ps.gz)
but the other one is only available in LaTeX format...

Please mail me any pointers to it.
Thanks.

Another question to ask the vendors is about their return policy. Many of
the 5 year warranties require that you return the drive to them before
they will ship you a new one. I look for vendors that will send me
a new drive first. I cannot afford to be without my system for several
days waiting for disk drives.

Subject: PVM and linux network configuration
Date: Thu, 26 May 1994 11:34:49 GMT

We are trying to run PVM 3.2.6 on Linux 1.0 and are experiencing
some problems starting up pvm. The problems even occur when only
one machine is involved. It appears that pvm cannot make contact
to the pvmd because it discards the network packets of local
network traffic. The recvfrom() (in netinput() of file pvmd.c) seems
to receive local packets from the loopback adress 127.0.0.1, while it
is expecting it from the machine's real IP address.

Is this:
- our fault, because we configured the network wrongly
- Linux's fault, because recvfrom() should never return 127.0.0.1
- PVM's fault??

Any help would be appreciated.

I may have missed the original post, but here's my two cents.

my company buys the following disks which all come with a five year return
to factory warranty (these disks are 5.25") :
3.6gb (2.9 formatted) Seagate elite III, this disk costs about
                $2000.00 to $2250.00.
5.1gb (4.0 formatted) DEC DSP 5400, this disk costs about $2250.00
                to $2450.00.
10.8gb (9.0 formatted) Seagate Elite 9, this disk costs about
        $4650.00 to $4950.00.

since I do not know if the poster was looking for speed or capacity here my
candidates.

Yes, this is what I am trying to do. Unfortunately it seems that our network
superviser is not quite competent with this sort of things. So I would like
to find out what exactly should be loaded on the Netware server to support
TCP/IP. At the moment we can use telnet on our dos machines if ipx and
ipxpkt are loaded, so I understand that our server has some ability to route
tcp packets, but if I load ne2000 packet driver with
pktipx at a dos machine, telnet does not work. And it does not work on
linux either.

Any suggestions?

1) Is there a way to disable read/write cacheing, so I can turn off the
computer whenever I want to without waiting?

2) I've seen several posts asking how to change text modes in linux, but
no responses. Can someone please post a response?

3) Is there a way to change the redirection of a running process? In
other words, if I do

$ yes > /dev/null

can I break that redirection and send it either to another file or back
to the console? I know the answer is probably no, or we wouldn't have
things like iScreen. But if it isn't possible, why isn't it?

Thanks

Try out the older version 0.9.9d of ftape. It is more stable in most cases,
although it lacks some minor features of 0.9.10a (see RELEASE_NOTES).
Under Slackware 1.2.x place ftape.o-0.9.9d in directory /boot and set the
link ftape.o (in /boot) to this ftape version.

Don't hesitate, if version 0.9.9d detects the Iomega as a Colorado drive.
It works fine for my Iomega 250 since months. I often carry multi-megabytes
on QIC-80 tapes between different computers (I installed Slackware 1.2.x
on other computers using the new tapeinstall scripts from Slackware without
any problems)

If you don't find ftape-0.9.9d on any of the main servers (tsx-11.mit.edu,
sunsite.unc.edu, ftp.funet.fi, etc.), I placed the last ftape versions
together with some backup utility programs on our server:

ftp.uni-duisburg.de: /pub/linux/misc

Hope this helps,

I've found that using pbmplus to convert other graphics formats works all
right; thus, using zgv and pbmplus may be better than using xv, if
resources are a problem. xv takes a great deal of memory and compute
