From Ptomblin message, he said that my network configuration error may
be due to answer 'yes' when responding to sound card/driver questions.
After that, I changed my configuration file once more and execute
'make zImage' and 'make zboot' once more. The results are the same.
The following is the complete content of config.in and the extract of
error message displayed on the screen when I executed above commands.
Does anybody can help me to figure out what I am doing wrong?

MC Wai

Hi,

I am searching for the programmer of the METALLBASE database system. His old
email addresses were richid@owlnet.rice.edu and t-richj@microsoft.com, but he
is not a user on this systems.

I have some important questions to him. Can anyone tell me his email address?

Thanx, Holger

Hehe You won't find one :) I couldn't find a decent BBS for Linux.. I
searched many popular FTP sites, yet I didn't find one..

Good luck! :)

Thats unfortunatly how most things are...

>Should we support Mail & News with internal (hard work) or external (easy,
>but lots of different User Interfaces) Programs.

I think the main appeal that running a Linux BBs would be its InterNET
abilities. Users telnet'ing into the Bbs wouldn'y need the news and email
resources but dial-in users would..
>
>What programming language do we choose (C(++),Perl, tcl, foo, bar, etc) ?

Perl is pretty nice but I feel the best and most powerful language to use is
C. Gcc on Linux is very good and programming in C isn't too bad...

>Should every user have a unix-account or shall we use one "bbs" account or
>both ?

I think that is dependant on the user's access. Obviously.. if the Bbs is
a private BBs.. the sysop is going to have to pay for the InterNET access.
So, I think lower accesses will only have the BBs's interface but higher users
can use things like the Unix prompy and other things such like SLIP.

>How do we realize that the sysop can watch/aid bbs-users screens ? How do
>we map different Terminal-Types then ?

Do it with Xwindows.. We require more programming but the Interface could be
extreamly powerful and easy to use if done right.

>Should we "copy" the good features of bbs'es like Remote Access or should
>we start with a complete new approach ?

Good question. Remote Access is a very nice approach but I don't think BBs
users are going to really want that kind of interface. I've been a sysop now
for over 10 years. I've used many BBs packages and found that the Teleguard/
Renegade system by far the best for system managment and over-all
configurability. I love PC Board and like the fact that you can get WWIV's
source code. I think if we setup some sort of round table of interested SYSops.... We could come up with a excellent game plan.

I'm no C god... ( yet.. ) but I would be willing to help with the coding and
the planning. I have loved Renegade for a while but having a Linux BBs would
just kick ass.. So who else is interested?

Date: 25 May 1994 04:54:14 GMT

I have been hearing more and more about Linux and the more I hear
the more I like it.

I am not currently running Linux but have seriously considered setting
it up as it would allow me to do more work on POV for X-Windows than
currently possible.

How many readers would be interested in an officially-compiled and
supported version of POVRAY, with X-Windows support, for LINUX ???

If I get enough responses to make me think it is worthwhile, I'll
set up Linux here and lobby the other team members to make an
official release of a POV binary for Linux. Currently, there are
*no* official POV binaries for any UNIX operating system.

please reply here or email me.

on another note, persons wanting to be notified of new POV releases
via email, and POV news in general, can email povmail@uniwa.uwa.edu.au

if you have FTP, you can of course get POV from uniwa.uwa.edu.au

check them out sometime ! some of them are stunning.

I will toss this into the pot.
I have 2 Bernoullis, an external 'Transportable' and an internal 150.
Both are SCSI and will work with the Adaptec 1540/42 and 1522. Both
are solid, and just treat them like an additional hard drive. IDE and
'PCPowered' units are different animals, tho, and I have had no experience
with them.

Wow! No Kidding! One thing also to concider is the emerging IDE-2 Format.
I have a Western Digital 540 drive and its seek is about 10ms and a transfer
rate of about 1.9Mb/s. Though this doesn't hold a candle to the SpittFire,
WD's new 1Gig and 700MB drives will have higher spindle speeds thus higher trasfer rates.

One question for you. What is a common street price for a 1Gig SpittFire?
