We even have month which is called "aout" :-)

It's August; if you can display 8bit ISO-8859-1 chars (and if they reach your
site), it is spelled: Ao{t. (u circonflex)

But now, I'll call it a.out !

Maybe you are right, but not all slip account cannot receive email.
And there is a "tip" for slip user (for me,the novice)
for example:
one guy write a email to you and address is urname@slipaccount.slipdomain
if you want to receive the letter, your sendmail's config for
the hostname and domain must be the same as "slipaccount",and "slipdomain".

If you do not set it the right name, sendmail will reject the incoming email,
and you can get the information by the mail logfile.
Check it now,if you find the information, then follow my way,you can receive
the email by slip connection.
Last i want to express is: if you use PUBLIC slip account, you will lost
many emails.

Hi,this is ERIC,(you see, ERIC)
Uncomment some lines for ttyS? in /etc/inittab,
then these lines can login as your linux box's terminal.

(like getty handle the tty0....,the uugetty or getty or mgettp or getty_ps
will handle the ttyS? as the same way,you need to read the /usr/doc/faq..
serial faq or howto files, especially you want to use 8 ports rs232 card.
you will need to modify the serial.c or rc.local for it.)

If you want to setup for slip connection, you can try sliplogin utility,
it works well.

If you want some special service, modify the inittab file or make some
special account to let people login.(eg: ftp,anonymous,guest,gopher,bbs,...)

I am a novice, too. (About 6 months self-study for linux and unix and internet)
I can set up my linux box to be the slip server, you can do it,too.

the sliplogin should be some ftp server..../linux/ALPHA/...

Sorry for my poor english,I wish you can understand it.

Being a Danish invention Comal was also ported to the Regnecentralen
Piccoline as well as some strange Danish CP/M PC that I used at a high
school course back in '84/'85. Comal was meant to have the simplicity of
Basic, but with the structures of Pascal. I enjoyed learning it - but

You send the email to the wrong group, you need gnu group not linux group.

Just get the gcc-2.4.?.tar.gz file, uncompresss it.
Read the Install Menu you will find it there.
You will need to compile it to be the cross-compiler before you use it.

You can use the stty command in profile files (or rc*):
        stty erase ^H
and it should work fine.

|I haven't used the xmodmap yet but I'll try if that's the way to fix the

I don't think both errors should be related. This las should be due to an
improper .Xmodmap in /usr/X386/lib/X11/xinit . Check the file and the man
pages about it. Notice the format is not exactly the same as in xx.map
if you have set a special keyboard using loadkeys.

For Sun people I do have a solution which worked well for me. terminal.c gave me an error about N_TTY. After commenting out #define USE_TERMIOS term115 compiled nicely on my sun. Commenting out the above rule means you want to use sgtty instead of TERMIOS. For me this worked fine. Hope it helps you too.

Hi...

A few days ago I compiled 1.14 on ultrix... And I made a patch and sent it
to oreilly... So maybe he will include those patches in the next release, so
it will compile on ultrix from then...

Just a quick note from Just Computers!

Several of you have been calling and asking what the status is of your order.
All non-COD and domestic orders were shipped via priority mail on
either 05/13/94 or 05/14/94.

COD and International orders will be shipped on 05/16/94.

Thanks for all of your preorders. Your business is appreciated.

I expect that some folks in California received their orders on Saturday
already and will come to work on Monday very tired after playing with all of
the new goodies <grin>. The enthusiasm over this new release has been
fantastic!!!

We hand delivered some that were local to us as these folks didn't want to
wait for the mail. We were met on street corners by these anxious individuals.
I am lucky the cops didn't arrest anyone thinking we were selling drugs or
something. I can see it now. "Officer, it is just Linux", "Son, I am going
to have to haul you in. That is powerful stuff"

Hi.

Perhaps a year ago there was a thread on the subject 'Do you remember...'.
If anyone saved those articles (or at least some of them) I would really
appreciate if they could be available by ftp, or maybe reposted so that all
our newcomers could get some interesting facts on what linux was a (not very
long) while ago.

If not, let's start it again! I contribute with to statements:

Do you remember ...
 - when it took 12 mins for a full kernel rebuild on a 386/25 with 4MB ram?
 - byte 510?

Sorry to be (I imagine) the 100 th person to ask,
but I'm becoming concerned. They neither reply
to my mail nor announce on c.o.l.a. the shipping
date of the new 3 cd-rom Linux bundle - it was
going to be about Easter, I think. What gives?

Has anyone had luck in tracking them down very
recently (on linux@jana.com) If so, will you
mail me please?
Thanks.
