Hi,

Here is a new version of include/linux/soundcard.h. Compiling with this
should fix problems with gmod.

DON'T USE THIS soundcard.h WITH OLDER DRIVER VERSIONS SINCE IT WILL _NOT_
WORK WITH THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please, let me know if there are still some compatibility problems between
v2.5 and v2.90 of the sound driver.

Hannu

I've been unable to locate the source for these scripts. I'd like
to know if there is an update to UserMaint 1.0 by Charles Eads. Ver 1.0
appears to have problems editing GID (opens a tiny unusable window).

Subject: Using FK9000 (129 key programmable) keyboards
Date: 10 Aug 94 16:26:03 +1200

FK-9000 keyborads (with 129 keys) are programmable at the keyboard itself,
but is there any software under DOS and ESPECIALLY LINUX to make use of these
keys (e.g. in the Linux Kernel) without having to manually program keys for
each keyboard?

The problem is that the left-hand function keys send one code instead of two
(one for make, another for break), and the calculator keys like MC seem to all
send 0xFF (so long as another calculator key hadn't been pressed already).

I presume somebody must've done all this before.

Thanks,
Mark Aitchison.

Subject: gateway from ethernet to slip/ppp
Date: 10 Aug 1994 01:15:12 GMT

hi,

just out of curiosity: why has the behaviour of routing changed somewhere
between 1.1.20 and 1.1.30?

we're having a local ethernet with some linux-pc's, one of them configured as
disk- and modemserver. we used to have all local machines put in /etc/hosts,
plus some often-used machines at the university we connect to.

one of those machines at the university used to be mentioned as nameserver in
the resolv.conf of every single machine on our local ethernet. also, the
routing-tables had an entry:

default modemserver * UG 0 0 0 eth0

on the server, there is no "default" entry.

while there was no slip/ppp connection, ping to a far machine just said
"unknown host" or "no route to host" (by name / by ip-address).

with slip up and running, everything worked as expected.

nowadays, if i "ping" from some machine to the outer world with no slip,
it just hangs. no answer. i have to either remove the university's nameserver
from resolv.conf, or take extreme caution not to reference any machine by name
that's not in our /etc/hosts.

on the server, everything works as before, but the workstations don't get told
that there's no route to the outer world.

q1) what's been changed
q2) why
q3) how can i revert to the old behaviour

don't tell me to use an older kernel :-)

bye,

tom

Subject: * QIC-36 tape support *

[anxious calls to 'rtfm' > /dev/null]

I picked up an Everex QIC-36 interface and QIC-150 tape drive
for absolutely nothing. They work fine under the circa-1987
DOS backup software. I'd like to try to get this beast to work
under Linux, but I know little to nothing about QIC interface
standards and programming. I'm willing to give the task of writing
an interface a stab if I can be pointed in the right direction.

The card is an Everex-833 and the drive a Wangtek 5150EN, packaged
as an Everex.

I know that there is a DOS device driver that will convert a QIC36
into a virtual QIC02. I'm not sure of the name, but it is available
as a suppliment to a commercial product. If it is possible to spoof
the Linux QIC02 driver, I'd like to try.

BTW, anyone got a manual for the DIPs on the card? :-)

Thanks.

And because it's not a stateless protocol. (When you're overlaying multiple
file systems, statelessness can _really_ cause consistency problems, over
and above the ones which normal NFS already has. Note that people might
really want truly atomic link() or append_write() operations. NFS can't do
that.)
And because implementation is likely to be a lot easier. And because userfs
can queue more than one outstanding request to a mounted file system, which
helps performance.

When given a choice between compatibility and the features likely to be
offered by a userfs-based implementation, I'm leaning heavily to the latter
side. Let those other guys implement something like userfs. Or let themget
a Linux box to translate between the two, if absolutely necessary.
