The Linux Kernel Hackers' Guide, written by Michael Johnson, is a good source of general information about writing Linux device drivers. It is available from the usual Linux FTP sites.
The genuine PCMCIA standard is only available for a steep price from the PCMCIA association itself. The new PC Card Standard is supposed to cost $399, but old copies of the 2.1 standard may still be available at a deep discount.

Larry Levine has written a more general introduction to PCMCIA called the PCMCIA Primer, which should be on bookstore shelves in the summer of 1995. It is published by M & T Books, ISBN 1-55828-437-0.
Another book tentatively called "The Insider's Guide to PCMCIA Computing" is in the works, ISBN 0-57398-010-2.
