When the ftp.debian.org mirror site opened up to allow R6 to come out, I nabbed it as any mirror site should. Now, I installed the above package in base thinking that THAT was what I needed to upgrade to the R6 system since I've already installed the latest version of all the packages etc etc. It prompted me if I wanted to install a new /etc/passwd etc etc of which i said no, and installed normally. Then today, I had a power surge - to computers turned off and rebooted. I got a rude message at bootup saying that i had to install the R6 basedisk or configure it or something. Now, HOW the hell can I get the basedisk onto a floppy when I cant boot up my box to get the image? :-) Solution was to boot (luckily I had one) a R5 boot/rootdisk and mount the root FS - then moving the file '/sbin/unconfigured.sh' to something else and reboot again. That was most annoying - but at least I worked around the problem - we shouldnt really need to boot of a R6 basedisk to install R6 from R5 should we? Of course I could be completely mis-informed, if so, tell me and I'll shoot myself in the foot :-) Regards ...Karl -- ________________________ | PO Box 828 Office: (09)316-3036 Fax: (09)381-3909 |OWER INTERNET SERVICES Canning Bridge After Hours: 015-779-828 WA, 6153 Sales Support: sales@tower.com.au Internet Service Providers and Networking Solutions ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Message sent: From: iwj10@thor.cam.ac.uk (Ian Jackson) To: karl@tower.com.au Subject: Bug#1617: Acknowledgement (was: R6 intstall from R5) In-Reply-To: References: Thank you for the problem report you have sent regarding Debian GNU/Linux. We can get it into the installed system by either copying it separate from any package into the base system, or by coping it from the installation program to the proper location once the base system is installed. The only time it is used is during initial installation--it shouldn't affect upgrading an already-installed system. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Message sent: From: iwj10@thor.cam.ac.uk (Ian Jackson) To: Ian Murdock Subject: Bug#1617: Info received (was Bug#1617: R6 intstall from R5) In-Reply-To: References: Thank you for the additional information you have supplied regarding this problem report.
