That's why I did it. Unfortunately I'm not able to login as root on the following tty's: /dev/tty2 /dev/tty4 and /dev/tty6. This is since installing base-0.93.6-7.deb. Erick I also decided to install /etc/motd from base-0.93.6-7.deb. The default information in this file is somewhat misleading. The first line is telling something about the system where it was created on. This is not representative for my system of course. Perhaps this line should change and show a more general valid message. When I do uname --all this is what I get: Linux morris 1.2.10 #1 Tue Jun 13 18:37:28 EST 1995 i486 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The next line is in /etc/motd: Linux beagle 1.3.20 #7 Thu Aug 17 10:55:46 PDT 1995 i486 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Message sent: From: iwj10@thor.cam.ac.uk (Ian Jackson) To: Erick Branderhorst Subject: Bug#1541: Acknowledgement (was: root can't login on /dev/tty2 4 and 6) In-Reply-To: <9510041038.AA08309@mailgate.eur.nl> References: <9510041038.AA08309@mailgate.eur.nl> Thank you for the problem report you have sent regarding Debian GNU/Linux.
