My box could only boot the boot disks with ether=10,0x300,0,0,eth0 being supplied to LILO; otherwise the boot hangs. Very unpleasant. My old MCC 1.0+ from April 94 work, though. I built a bootdisk at the end of the installation, and yes, the same happens to the newly created bootdisk. That's ok with me, simply using the dist. boot disk with root=/dev/hd and the ether stuff did the job for the couple of boots needed until a new kernel was built and installed using lilo. But a bleeding Debian user with no prior Linux knowledge will be stuck. We're not going to run into trouble over the GPL because of that. However, I agree with your concern. I am re-writing the base disks for the ELF switch-over. When that happens, I will issue a binary package that will create the base disks, and let you change the banner messages to indicate your own value-added distribution, etc. Thanks Bruce -- -- Attention Ham Radio Operators: For information on "Linux for Hams", read -- the World Wide Web page http://www.hams.com/perens/LinuxForHams, or send -- an e-mail message containing the word "help" to info@hams.com . ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Acknowledgement sent to Bruce Perens : Extra info received and forwarded. IMO they should be, in ../source/base-disks or some such. (In fact, this may even be a requirement of the GPL.) This is important as users may need to build their own basedisks with special features.
