I've verified this, using version 2.3.7-3 of Debian's man package (the source code for which is available at ftp.debian.org:/debian/source/text/man-2.3.7-3.tar.gz > [...] > PS: It seems that the FSF also forgot to update info-stnd.info.gz file. This appears to be true. When replying to this bug report, I'd be grateful if you'd preserve the CC to debian-bugs@pixar.com, and keep the subject line starting with `Re: Bug#627'. This will allow our automatic bug tracking system to file your messages alongside the original report. If the catpage for the manual page does not exist the info command will create the catpage but won't show it. If you try it again it'll work because the catpage exist. BTW: If the PAGER environment variable is used, the info command sometimes prints something like "read error (press RETURN)" and it doesn't work either (but creates a catpage). BTW: "info --version" says "GNU Info, Version 2.14" but the package uses the version number 3.6 (from texinfo). Since "info" is the only program in the package it should probably have the version number 2.14 and not 3.6.
