It is the solution to this problem, as was discussed a while back when the 3c50[1,9] conflict was brought up. Hmm... I take it the new install methods aren't integrated with the base packages? It is the solution to this problem, as was discussed a while back when the 3c50[1,9] conflict was brought up. As a side-note, when I installed the system on a friends machine, I had to move binary/base out of the path because dpkg tries to install them, and that messes up things like /etc/modules, etc. I would suggest a post-install script for modules that asks which modules should be loaded. Also, Ian J., does/can dpkg ignore base (or perhaps any) packages that have already been installed unless they are at a higher version then what is on the system? Andrew Howell: Have you tried using/reading man page of lpc? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I think I see two potential problems here. Briefly, one might be remedied by removing the line that says plip from /etc/modules. The other might be remedied by executing the command su -c 'lpc up lp'. I feel that both of these could be better handled at installation time. [Aside: there's another problem with /etc/modules -- the 3c501 module will spoof the 3c509 driver and prevent it from loading for some cases of a system with only a 3c509 installed.] -- Raul D.
