The patch included here provides the disk statistics for the
/proc/stat filesystem. Up to four disks are supported and may
be of XT, standard or SCSI types. Note that is disks of different
types are present on the same system, the statistics will be
gathered such that all disk 1's are collected together, all
disk 2's, etc. This is probably not what you want, but that
serves you right for mixing types! I may correct it, but I
doubt it! For systems with all XT, all AT or all SCSI type
disks it works fine.

This patch applies to the clean Linux 1.0 kernel source. It's
very straightforward so don't fear if you want to apply it to
a different kernel version.

Apply with:

  cd /usr/src
  patch <my_patch_dir/linux-1.0.diskstat.patch

And then re-make your kernel.

Good luck! Have a go with 'perfmeter' to verify the patch.
