FMV is written in MS C++ V6.0 and MS-Visual Basic V6.0. FMV is 'built' with the following Microsoft service packs and
control/OCX upgrades applied. These upgrades are applied immediately prior to each build to ensure we distribute up to
date dll's and OCX's with our software :-

MS-Visual Studio SP2
MS_Windows NT V4.0 SP5

FMV is tested on a Win NT4.0 network, Win 98 and Win95 with 'out of the box' operating system builds. Current service packs are applied to test machines where appropriate. FMV does not write to the registry.

FMV will NOT automatically associate itself with ANY file types.
FMV is virus checked with Norton AV and ViruScan for Windows NT prior to distribution.

FMV does NOT gather OR transmit any data about your PC or the movies you watch over the internet. NOTE :- Some other popular streaming / Player software does ! Whats more, it they did it without the end users knowledge...

*** FMV's Most common Tech suppport requests are :-

Installation.
The installation of media player is ONLY required to update codecs on your system.
If you have Internet Explorer V5.x, you will ALREADY have the required files and do not need to download it.

The upgrade can be freely downloaded from :-http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia.

Control Registration Errors.
Check the versions and dates in the setup.lst file against the versions currently held on your system. If an error is generated trying to register msdxm.ocx, this is usually for the following reasons :-

A) MS-Media Player has not been installed or

B) The version of media player on your system is out dated. Upgrade your current copy of mediaplayer from the
Microsoft website - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia.

If FMV's installer fails to register any other controls(OCX) files, then just type 'IGNORE' to the message.
This is usually due to an incorrectly dated OCX file being on your system. If the OCX FMV ships with is newer, the installer will try to register the OCX. Please see the file list at the end of this document for currrent date/times of the OCX's that FMV ships with. Errors may also occur if you are running other applications while installing FMV.

AVI to MPEG convertor
The frame rate the video was recorded at and the audio format is very important. Both of these however can be converted in the timeline editor prior to converting the AVI to an MPEG.
There is a 'SAVE OPTIONS' dialog in the timeline editor with a dropdown for BOTH the video
and audio streams. The convertor will only convert AVI's with PCM format audio. You can also
just extract the audio from an avi by deleting the video stream in the timeline editor and then just saving it as type WAV.

The timeline editor will ALSO convert bitmaps to AVI's just point it at the FIRST bitmap in the sequence.

If you use the animations while playing CD Audio tracks, a P300 or better is required for adaquate performance. If you do not have such a powerful PC, just switch this feature off.
This is a VERY CPU intensive process !

*** Running multiple Copies of FMV
You may start multiple copies of FMV. FMV will allow this as there are occasions where you may wish to visually compare two collections. Additionally, it is sometimes very usefull to have the 'capture Window' open on one copy and the 'AVI Editor' open on another copy. You can then just 'Cut and Paste' between the two. We do not advise you to run two copies of FMV in normal use however.

System Requirements
-----------------------------
Pentium P233 or Better P300with mmx for Animations
MMX is preferred
16x CD ROM Drive
A Soundcard
4Mb Graphics card or better

--------------------
Getting Started
--------------------

Installation
--------------
If you are installing FMV 1.99 for the first time, run the setup.exe program and select the appropriate choices.

-------------------
Known Issues
-------------------
V1.9.9 Outstanding

1)Playing CD tracks on slow (2x) PC\CD-Rom may make FMV's track selection erratic. Just give the drive time to catch up.
2)Playbar is 'chopped' in extract bmps from Quicktime movies when using small fonts. Switch to large fonts

3)3dfx Voodoo cards may not update the display corrrectly. Please check that you have the latest Driver from 3dfx. These cards also have some problems with bitmap extraction. To fix the problem :-
Reduce the level of hardware Acceleration as described above
4) Decompressing the GIF's when setting up FMV seems to take a very long time. We are not sure why GIFs take so long to decompress and will be using InstallSheild for FMV V2.0. We apologise for this inconvenience.

5) The Audio animations are VERY CPU intensive. If they appear erratic, switch them off in the preferences. A P300 or better with MMX is prefered. Also don't leave them running when using other applications simultaniously.

6) The CD Audio to WAV convertor may not work if you have a slow CD-ROM Drive.

Other
-------

CD-Audio tracks are not played in collections as some older type CD's were not designed for continual use. These older type drives may overheat and become damaged (One of our old 2x drives gave up the ghost after about 8hrs continual use - It was a popular brand as well). This is also the reason that we have removed CD-Audio from screensavers that FMV creates. If you have an older type CD-Rom drive, you should bear the above in mind when using other applications that may play CD-Audio for prolonged periods of time.

***** To use the QuickTime Special effects or to play new QuickTime Movies such as 'Phantom Menace', you must install the FULL QuickTime Download from Apple. This is about an 8MB download but for some of the best special effects about, it's well worth the download. The full FMV demo CD ships with the QuickTime installation files and NO downloading is required. *****

---------------------------------
Multiple Movie additions
---------------------------------
You may use 'shift extend' to add several files at a time from the File Add dialog.
You may also drag and drop movies \ MP3's into the playlist.

Section 2: Before You Run Installation, Be Sure To...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Before installing any Windows application, you may want to perform
a little housekeeping. You may skip these steps and go directly to
the installation steps (described in sections 3 and 4), but keep
these housekeeping suggestions in mind if you run into any installation
problems:

* Disable any FMV or other screen savers before using or installing
FMV. Other screen savers may interfere with the display of graphics and cursors.
Additionally, switch off any Virus checking software during the installation.
You may virus check the files before and after the installation but some virus checkers may
cause the installer problesm during the installation.

To playback MPEG files, YOU MUST BE RUNNING A MPEG CODEC IN ORDER
FOR THIS APPLICATION TO RUN PROPERLY. Be sure to get the latest
video drivers from your graphics board or system manufacturer.
If you just upgraded your system from Windows 3.1X to Windows 95,
you must contact you graphics board or system manufacturer to
receive their latest version of Windows 95 video drivers. If you
are running a software MPEG codec such as MediaMatics,
ActiveMovie, or CompCore, you must also make sure that you have
DirectDraw available and loaded on your system. If this seems
confusing, and it is, please contact your board manufacturer or
system manufacturer for details specific to your system. They
will be able to fully describe your system to you and all the
requirements for MPEG playback!

Section 4: Running FMV
---------------------------------
Starting FMV:

The installation program will also create a program group called
"FMV " with an icon for the FMV. Just double click
the FMV icon to run as stand alone program.

Adding Your Own Movies and Graphics to FMV:

To add your own multimedia elements to FMV, check out
our built in help file for more details.

Section 5: Uninstalling Under Windows 95 / 98 / NT
---------------------------------------------------------------------
To uninstall FMV on your computer under Windows 95, simply
access the Control Panel and run Add/Remove Programs by double
clicking the icon. You will see an entry called "FMV."
Select this entry (by single clicking the text) and then select
click on the Remove button. This action will delete all the files
installed by FMV, and remove all references to FMV.

If you have created collections or saved graphics in the folder you installed FMV into, the uninstaller will NOT remove the folder.Just delete the contents of the folder and then delete the folder.

If you find any additional issues with your version of FMV,
please foward them via email to Slipstream@f-m-v.com

Thank you for your help.
