What game comes to mind when someone mentions New World Computing? The Might & Magic series, of course, but New World has a new game in town, and it goes by the name of Zephyr. Zephyr may have a strange name, but it has a familiar concept. Interplanetary governments have become weak and useless, giant corporations are what make, and break the law. Everything that's anything revolves around the I.B.C. the Interplanetary Battle Circuit. Everything has come down to six large corporations, clamoring and battling to stay on top of one another. Each corporation sponsors one Zephyr driver. Zephyr is a code name for the hover-tanks used in the arena. The corporations' tanks are representatives of that corporation; each tank has special attributes for which the particular corporation is known, giving a diversity in gameplay and tactical strategies. There are a total of eight different worlds, each with a few different arenas to do battle in. The game play is a lot like that of the ubiquitous Doom. One good piece of news is that Zephyr supports multiple players via modem or network. New World Computing has also included support for several VR headsets which will soon become available. One of the big differences between Zephyr and Doom is the perspective. While the heart of the two games are extremely similar, the player is given an illusion that they are quite different. For example, a lot of the Zephyr arenas are outside, under water, or take place in ruins. Also, the network play allows up to six people to play at once instead of just four. All in all, Zephyr looks like at least a good and potentially an excellent action game. Although New World hasn't really tackled the action genre before on this scale, if they can maintain the high graphic detail without losing speed or gameplay, Zephyr could be the next mega-hit tying up YOUR network.
