NASCAR Racing is the newest car to hit the tracks from Papyrus Design Group. NASCAR will feature every great aspect of IndyCar Racing and more. Arguably the most important new feature of NASCAR is the high-resolution Super VGA graphics mode on the CD ROM version only. The PC floppy version will use traditional VGA graphics. Still photos of NASCAR look almost photorealistic - but stills can't do justice to NASCAR in comparison with actual game play. NASCAR Racing is officially licensed by NASCAR and is based upon the Winston Cup Series. That should please even the most avid stock car fans out there. NASCAR Racing has several key features that give the "feel" of the real thing. As with IndyCar, it is obvious that a lot of loving care went into making the driving engine feel realistic and responsive. This is about as good as it gets - if you don't like driving this NASCAR, you wouldn't like driving a real Winston Cup race car either! No exaggeration - it's THAT good. You the driver, are presented with nearly every option that the big boys have to choose from. For example; as a driver you can adjust the rear spoiler angle to make your car "stick" to the track, or sacrifice handling to cruise like a rocket. You can also determine tire type and pressure, suspension stiffness, change gear ratios and more. Papyrus has presented race fans with a very thorough racing simulation to claim as their own. Among Papyrus' most important concerns was realism, and how their simulation would stack up to the real thing. From my experience of attending Winston Cup races at tracks used in NASCAR Racing, they have done an excellent job in re-creating the look & feel produced when these NASCAR drivers are racing for the checkered flag. Paying attention to detail in the development stages can pay huge dividends when the product is in its finished state. Several aspects of the game provide great realism other than the graphic ability. One very important feature is the car set-up which is virtually the same as in IndyCar. The car handling aspects appear to be very realistic. Handling attributes change with different tire temperatures, compounds, pressures and wear, as well as fuel load, engine set-up, track banking and grade. Naturally, NASCAR will include several real tracks to race. The initial game will include around nine tracks, with more to follow in the future. In addition, you will be able to drive real cars against approximately twenty real drivers. Papyrus has also improved upon the effects of crashes. Varying speeds of impact will cause parts to fly from the car. And, depending on the severity of the damage, you may be able to pull back on the track and rejoin the race. If you are familiar with IndyCar and the add-ons available for it, you'll be glad to know that an enhanced paint kit will be included in NASCAR Racing. This utility will allow you to paint your car as desired and add decals to certain sections to give your car to further customize its appearance. Graphic detail is a true wonder in NASCAR Racing. From the superb crowd scenes on the fly by to backgrounds exactly like the real track to the very finest car detailing, NASCAR Racing has it all! NASCAR is modeled to look just like you would see it from the car and from television footage. Even in its early stages, NASCAR Racing from Papyrus is impressive. A great deal of effort has obviously gone into cramming as much realism and detail as possible into it. It even eclipses its spiritual parent, the highly-acclaimed IndyCar Racing. There have been several good racing simulations over the years, but nothing at this high level of quality. NASCAR Racing is laps ahead of the competition.
