Legend was not present at the main booth site. Instead, they were located in the same comfortable hotel suite with Accolade. What with Legend not being present at the CES, some people might have overlooked them. Given the quality of their upcoming titles, that would be unfortunate. President of Legend, Robert Bates boasts "Mission Critical is more than the average adventure game" and I'll be damned if he isn't right. Visually, this game is a sight for sore eyes. For those who wish to find out how "big" Mission Critical will be, start looking for it around the end of the year. The storyline places you as the lone survivor of a deep space battle aboard the USS Lexington, your horribly damaged heavy cruiser. With virtually nothing functional on the ship, you must repair the Lexington and return it to some sort of fighting ability as more enemy ships are headed in your direction. The overall mission for you and the USS Lexington is to investigate an unexplored alien world. If all goes well, you can save the universe from fifteen years of interplanetary war. Mission Critical features "a virtual world with smooth-scrolling 3D environments" is rendered in 640 X 480 Super VGA graphics. Also featured are full motion video and detailed battle sequences. Mission Critical will be available for PC CD ROM. Developed by Legend based on the bestselling novel series by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, Deathgate has look of a winner. This graphic fantasy adventure will initially be available on CD; a floppy version may follow, but isn't certain at this point. Using the Companions of Xanth interface and super VGA graphics, Deathgate may elevate the Legend name to new heights. Deathgate looks very well detailed. The 640 X 480 resolution makes it stand apart from other role-playing/adventure games. The only drawback to Deathgate is that we must wait until October to get our hands on this beautiful game. Some time ago, Spartan broke the World seal and the planet itself into five realms. Now from the Labyrinth, you must seek revenge on Spartan. During this quest, you must gather and reconstruct the five pieces of the World Seal that lie on the other side of Death Gate.
