**** RAILS DELUXE README.TXT FILE **** ------------------------------------------------------------------- : : : The INSTALL program will automatically update the files for : : Railroad Tycoon Deluxe once you specify the proper location. : : Please ignore the warning stating that the old files will be : : deleted. DOS 6.2 users should consult their manuals regarding : : enhancements to the copy command to avoid conflict. : ___________________________________________________________________ The purpose of this file is to present any information that missed the technical supplement. PROPER SOUND AND MUSIC SETTINGS IF THE INSTALL PROCESS HANGS UP AT ANY POINT, TRY AGAIN USING "INSTALL -s". FAILURE TO SELECT A SOUND SETTING AT THE END OF INSTALLATION WILL REQUIRE YOU TO RE-INSTALL FROM THE BEGINNING. When installing the Sound and Music for RAILS DELUXE on your computer be sure that the settings are correct and match your particular sound system. If you experience a "lock-up" on your machine during the introduction screens or in the early parts of a game, then you probably have some sort of conflict between the installed settings for your sound card and RAILS DELUXE. To alleviate problems of this sort you must simply run the "Install" routine, which is in the RAILSDX root directory, and select "Reconfigure Hardware Options". This will allow you to change the settings of your sound/music software interrupts (Addresses, IRQ's and/or DRQ's). If you continue to experience problems feel free to contact MicroProse Customer Service. The phone numbers for the MicroProse Customer Service Department and MPS Electronic Bulletin Board can be found in the RAILS DELUXE Technical Supplement. CORRECTIONS TO THE PLAYER AID CARD AFRICA: Passengers do not travel between outposts. Cities do not demand troops. S. A. : Refineries produce Mfg. Goods, not Petroleum. ************************** NEW FOR VERSION 2.0 ***************************** FIXES: The problems involving "OVERLAY NOT FOUND" errors has been traced to the video routine drawing off screen and has been fixed. The mouse interface now works like a standard Windows interface while retaining the functions of previous versions. The speed of the game in the Local Display has been maximized. A side effect of this is the occasional flashing of city names and small pieces of track. The Features section of the Game menu now works properly (Animations turns off the scrolling pages of the financial summary at the end of a fiscal year). People experiencing problems with digitized sound on IRQ2 should configure for IRQ9. This IRQ is usually re-routed to IRQ2 on most machines. OS/2 users can avoid lock-ups on exit by retiring instead of using the -Q quick exit. NEW FEATURES: New train car artwork has been added in all theatres. The earliest cars cannot be represented on the routing screen due to their small size, but the cars do change their appearance as newer engines are introduced. An Auto-Save feature now saves the game at the end of every year to a special file that can be reloaded using the resume game option. This method does not use any Saved Game spaces. The Tutorial Railroad has been added to the game and can be accessed using the Tutorial option at the startup. This also does not take up any Saved Game spaces. APOLOGIES: We are unable to fix a money roll over problem that manifests in a couple of different ways. Your cash may mysteriously become negative, or you may end up with spikes in your stock graph, or if your Railroad net worth rolls over, you may be kicked out of office. This is an indication that you have done so well as to exceed the design parameters of the game. We were also unable to raise the restrictions on the number of stations and trains available without completely rewriting the entire game. There is room in the future for a bigger, better, faster game in the Railroad Tycoon line and we hope you will be with us at that time for more enjoyment. Thank-you for choosing RAILS DELUXE, The RAILS DELUXE Team.
