    FABLES & FIENDS: THE HAND OF FATE  -  Patch file to Version 1.40

 This update fixes several minor bugs including the problems experienced
 by some users of very fast machines (Pentiums, 66's and very few 33's).
 We have also increased the speed/performance on slower machines. 

 Manual patch installation instructions for upgrade to Version 1.40
------------------------------------------------------------------

   1) Copy the following files into the directory that you
      installed HAND OF FATE.

      PATCH.RTP
      PATCH.EXE

   2) Type PATCH at the DOS prompt and press ENTER.
  
   3) Wait until the patch process completes and then play normally.

 What to do if the patch program does not seem to work.
 -------------------------------------------------------------
 This patch actually updates Hand of Fate only if it has not  
 been altered by cheat/hex programs.  
 
 If the patch will not work, you probably already have an updated
 version of HAND of FATE and do not need to repatch the program.  The
 version number is located on the bottom right hand corner of your title
 screen.

 If you are having trouble playing digitized sound with your Soundblaster 
 compatible sound card please try the following.

   1)  Verify that you have a full megabyte of extended memory.
       One option to make more Extended memory available is by configuring 
       EMM386 to:
      
                 "DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS RAM"

   2)  Create a boot disk by using the following CONFIG.SYS 

       DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS RAM
       DOS=HIGH
       (load any mouse drivers in DOS)

   3)  Make sure that your AUTOEXEC.BAT file contains the "SET BLASTER=....."
       command to indicate what settings your sound card is configured for.

     The "SET BLASTER" command is configured as:

                     "SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T1"

     Where:  Axxx = address of soundcard      (Default = 220)
             Ix   = interrupt of soundcard    (Default = 7)
             Dx   = DMA channel               (Default = 1)
             Tx   = Type of card              (Default = 1 for Soundblaster)   

     ** Hand of Fate will work with various interrupt, address, and DMA
     settings.   Just be sure they match the ones on your Soundblaster 
     compatible card.
