      BACKGROUND

Stacker works well on DOS based peer-to-peer networks such as
Lantastic. However, all of the Stacker Utilities such as CHECK
and SDEFRAG will not work while Lantastic is in memory. You will
see an error message that the drive is not a Stacker drive if you
start the Stacker Utility from the command line. And the Stacker
Toolbox will not be available in Windows when logged onto a
      Lantastic network.

Also Artisoft recommends that the CONTROL directory be placed on
      the uncompressed drive.

      SOLUTION

         - Remove the network from memory.
         - Place the CONTROL directory on the uncompressed drive.

      Remove the network from memory

Run the Stacker utilities when Lantastic is not in memory. You
may restart your system, and not logon to the network during the
boot process. Or you may TAP the CTRL-ALT-DEL key combination.
You will be presented with the options to reboot the computer, or
to remove Lantastic from memory. If you choose the option to
remove Lantastic from memory, all the Stacker utilities will work
      just fine.

Place the CONTROL directory on the uncompressed drive

       1. Type STACKER <enter> at the DOS prompt. Locate the line
reporting drive C. It will look something like this:

           Drive C was drive C at boot time [D:\STACVOL.DSK = 123.4MB]

The uncompressed drive is the drive letter in brackets, in
           this case D.
       2. Configure Lantastic to place the CONTROL directory on the
uncompressed drive. See the Lantastic documentation for
           details.
       3. If there is insufficient space on the uncompressed drive to
place the CONTROL directory there, open the Stacker Toolbox,
and select the option to Change Stacker Drive Size, More
Uncompressed Space Available. Full instructions are
contained in Chapter 4 of the Stacker User's Guide.
