      BACKGROUND

Stacker is compatible with anti-virus programs such as those from
Norton (NAV) and Central Point (CPAV). This document will
provide you with information on how Stacker and anti-virus
      programs coexist.

      SOLUTION

         - Installing Stacker.
         - Immunization.
         - BOOTSAFE from Central Point Anti-Virus.

      Installing Stacker

Anti-virus programs may be run from a command line, a menu,
whenever the system boots, and/or as a memory resident program.
Stacker Setup will detect and disable most Anti-Virus programs
that run at startup or are memory resident. When Stacker Setup
asks you if you wish to restart to disable memory-resident
      programs, choose restart.

      Immunization

Some anti-virus programs such as CPAV allow you to "immunize"
executable files by adding signature information to the file. Do
NOT immunize the Stacker device driver files. These files use
their own signature information for a "checksum" self-check at
boot time. Immunizing the files disrupts this checksum
information and prevents them from loading. Exempt the files
from immunization by adding them to the immunization exception
      list. Add the following files:

DBLSPACE.BIN if you are using DOS 6 or above.
STACKER.COM and SSWAP.COM if you are using other DOS versions.

If you must restore the DBLSPACE.BIN file, insert Stacker Disk #1
into its drive, go to that drive and type: \TOOLS\REDBL C:
      <enter>.
If you must restore the STACKER.COM and SSWAP.COM files, copy
them from Stacker Disk #1 to the STACKER directory on the hard
      drive.

      BOOTSAFE from Central Point Anti-Virus.

Bootsafe is Central Point's partition table and boot sector
security system. Usually loaded in AUTOEXEC.BAT, it examines the
boot sector and partition information of the default drive
(usually C:). If Stacker is swapping drive letters, Bootsafe
will attempt to read this information on the Stacker logical
drive and report: "WARNING partition/boot sector has been
modified!" This solution is to make Bootsafe look at the
uncompressed (physical) boot drive. To determine the uncompressed
boot drive, type C:\STACKER\STACKER <enter>. The Drive Map
display will be similar to the following:

      Drive C: was drive C: at boot time [ D:\STACVOL.DSK = 123.4MB ]
Drive D: was drive D: at boot time

Note the drive letter in brackets next to drive C (D in this
case). This is the uncompressed boot drive. Therefore, in
AUTOEXEC.BAT the Bootsafe line would be: Bootsafe D:
