      BACKGROUND

If you attempt to run the Novell DOS 7 version of CHKDSK, you
will receive the error message "You have attempted to run a ver
3.00 CHKDSK with a ver 4.00 Stacker Device....". While CHKDSK may
continue to run, space reporting will be innacurate, and disk
errors may not be repaired. To address this issue, Novell has
distributed an updated version of its CHKDSK.

      SOLUTION

Download the file D70U04.EXE from the Novell Bulletin Board at
      (408) 649-3696. This is a self-extracting ZIP file. When run, it
will produce a new CHKDSK.EXE file and a text file, along with
some other Novell DOS file updates. Read the text file in any
editor and follow the directions you find there. The syntax when
      running the updated CHKDSK is:

      CHKDSK /NS <enter>

Remember, if you want CHKDSK to make repairs to the drive, you
still must use the /F parameter. For example:

      CHKDSK /NS /F <enter>

Note that Novell periodically updates its maintenance file,
D70U0n.EXE. As of this writing, the latest file is D70U04.EXE. In
order to ensure you have the latest maintenance file, check for
any later version on the Novell BBS. Contact Novell Product
      support for further details.
