      BACKGROUND

There have been some reported instances of unpredictable behavior
on a drive using Novell DOS 7 after installing Stacker 4.0. This
condition may be due to the way in which the High Memory Area
(HMA) is being addressed. Novell is aware of the issue and has an
      updated file which addresses it.

      SOLUTION

         - Edit the STACKER.INI file to disable use of the HMA.
         - Obtain the updated file for the HMA issue from Novell.

Edit the STACKER.INI file to disable use of the HMA

       1. Type: ED /I <enter>
       2. Press <enter> to insert a blank line. Arrow up to that line
           and type:
           /-HMA
       3. Press CTRL-Z to save the file. Restart your system for the
           changes to take effect.

Obtain the updated file for the HMA issue from Novell

Download the file D70U04.EXE from the Novell Bulletin Board at
      (408) 649-3696. The file is also available on Compuserve. This is
a self-extracting ZIP file. When run, it will produce a new
IBMDOS.COM file and a text file, along with some other Novell DOS
file updates. Read the text file in any editor and follow the
directions you find there. After you obtain and install the file,
remove the /-HMA switch from the STACKER.INI file.

Note that Novell periodically updates its maintenance file,
D70U0n.EXE. As of this writing, the latest file is D70U04.EXE. In
order to ensure you have the latest maintenance file, check for
any later version on the Novell BBS. Contact Novell Product
      support for further details.
