      BACKGROUND

QEMM version 7.5 has a feature that enables the Stacker device
driver to occupy only 13 Kilobytes of conventional memory,
regardless of cluster size. This powerful feature may be invoked
if you have the current Stacker device driver, and you tell
Stacker to take advantage of it. Note: see StacFax 4505 for
information on how cluster size normally affects the Stacker
      driver size.

      SOLUTION

       1. Ensure that you have run QEMM's Optimize program since
installing it, and since installing Stacker.
       2. At the DOS prompt run QEMM's Manifest by typing MFT <enter>.
Note the size of the Stacker driver in memory and then exit
Manifest. The driver will be listed as either Stacker or
Stachigh. Consult your QEMM documentation on running
           Manifest.
       3. Test the switch that invokes the memory management feature.
Change to the STACKER directory and type ED /I <enter>. This
will bring up the STACKER.INI file in memory.
       4. Press <enter> to insert a blank line at the beginning of the
file. Arrow up to the blank line and type this line:
           /QD
       5. Press CTRL-Z to save the file and restart the system.
       6. Again run Manifest. Note the size of the Stacker driver. If
it is smaller, continue using the feature. If not, obtain
           the latest driver from Stac.
       7. Download the file S4UP.EXE from CompuServ, America On-Line,
or the Stac BBS at (619) 431-5956. See the brochure "How to
Contact Stac" for information on these services. If you do
not have access to a modem, contact Stac Product Support
           Services for assistance.
       8. After you obtain the update through on-line services, place
the file in your STACKER directory and run it. Follow the on-
screen instructions for completing the update.
       9. After updating the files and restarting the system, run
QEMM's Optimize again to take the smaller driver size into
           account.
