      BACKGROUND

Note: If you have not yet tried to install Stacker on your PS/1,
please follow the procedures in StacFax 4513.

If you setup Stacker on an IBM PS/1, and the system has not been
reconfigured to start from drive C, your data may appear to be
missing. In fact it is still there, but is not accessible because
the Stacker driver has not loaded. The PS/1 is designed to start
up from hardware in the machine called ROM. This ROM startup
drive is designated as drive D. However, this startup method does
not load the Stacker device drivers. Setup your system to start
from drive C with the CUSTOMIZE program and you will have access
      to your data.

      SOLUTION

                                 IMPORTANT:
You MUST have the DOS program diskette containing CUSTOMIZ.EXE.
Do not proceed until you have this!

CUSTOMIZE How System Starts" is a program named CUSTOMIZ.EXE
which is found on the DOS diskettes that came with the machine.
Using the Customize program, you can configure the computer to
read the system files, CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT from C or D.

       1. Insert the DOS diskette in A: and Run the CUSTOMIZE program
from the DOS Quadrant on the PS/1s startup screen. (You may
also press <shift> F9 to get to a prompt and run
           A:CUSTOMIZ.)
                                    NOTE:
The customize defaults may be restored by powering down the
system, holding down the two mouse buttons, and powering back up.

       2. The third line from the bottom of the screen says "Read
           CONFIG.SYS:". Click on "from Disk"
       3. The next line down says " Read AUTOEXEC.BAT". Click on "From
           Disk"
       4. The last line says "Disk to Read from". Click on C:
       5. Press <enter> to save changes and exit.
       6. Reboot the machine.
       7. From the STACKER directory type CONFIG C: <enter>. Answer
yes to the questions asked to allow the changes to be
           made.
       8. Type ED /C <enter> to edit the CONFIG.SYS. Add this line to
           the end of the file:
           Install=D:\SHELLSTB.COM
to restore the system Quadrant menu. Press CRTL-Z to save
           the file.
       9. Restart the system for changes to take affect.
