      STACKER NOTE STACKER NOTE
DAC EASY ACCOUNTING AND STACKER 3.1
(Applies to Stacker for Windows & DOS ver 3.1)

      BACKGROUND

If you are running Dac Easy Accounting on a Stacker 3.1 drive,
you may have difficulty restoring backed up files to the
compressed drive. The programs will work together, but you must
configure Stacker to load from drivers in the CONFIG.SYS file.

      SOLUTION

         - Upgrade to Stacker 4.0.
         - Modify Stacker to load in the CONFIG.SYS file.

      Upgrade to Stacker 4.0

This problem occurs only in Stacker version 3.1 when preloading.
The simplest way to avoid the issue is to upgrade to Stacker 4.0
for Windows and DOS. Not only will there be no problem restoring
the Dac Easy files, but you will get significantly better disk
compression, and the Stacker device driver will be smaller in
memory, saving precious conventional RAM. Call 1-800-522-STAC for
information on upgrading. As a temporary solution, you may setup
your system for non-preloading. See the procedures below.

Modify Stacker to load in the CONFIG.SYS file

       1. Ensure that you have access to the file SSWAP.COM. If your
package of Stacker 3.1 included a disk labeled for "DOS 3.2-
5.x etc.", SSWAP.COM is on that disk. If you upgraded from
Stacker version 3.0, the file is on Stacker 3.0's disk # 2.
Otherwise, download the file from Stac's BBS at (619) 431-
5956. Download the file from the (D)ownload menu by typing
"D" and then the filename SSWAP.COM when requested. Note,
the file will NOT display if you try to (L)ist it.
       2. Restart your system. Type STACKER <enter> to see the Stacker
drive map. Locate the line that reports the C drive. It
           should look something like this:
           Drive C was drive C at boot time [ E:\STACVOL.XXX = 123.4MB]
Note the drive letter in brackets, in this case E. That is
           the uncompressed boot drive.
       3. Insert Stacker version 3.1 Disk # 1 into its drive. Go to
           that drive and type:
           \TOOLS\STACINI drive:
where drive: is the drive letter you determined in step 2.
       4. Note the name of any STACVOL files that are listed. For
           example:
           C:\STACVOL.DSK,SW
Press CTRL-Z to exit the file.
       5. Change to the STACKER directory. Type: ED C:\CONFIG.SYS
           <enter>.
       6. Locate the Stacker line. It will look something like this:
           DEVICE=C:\STACKER\STACHIGH.SYS
Disable the line by typing REM <space> at the beginning of
           the line.
       7. Add the following lines to the end of the file:
           DEVICE=C:\STACKER\STACKER.COM x:\stacvol.xxx x:\stacvol.yyy
           DEVICE=C:\STACKER\SSWAP.COM x:\stacvol.xxx /sync+
           DEVICE=C:\STACKER\SSWAP.COM x:\stacvol.yyy
where x:\stacvol.xxx is the name of the STACVOL file(s) you
noted in step 4. List all STACVOL files on the line with the
expression STACKER.COM. Do not include the ",XX" expressions
that you saw at the end of the STACVOL filenames.
If the STACVOL filenames that you noted in step 4 ended with
a ",SW", write an SSWAP.COM line for it. Write one SSWAP.COM
line for each STACVOL file. If one of the filenames is
"C:\STACVOL.DSK,SW", also include the "/SYNC+" expression as
shown in the example above. If the expression at the end of
the STACVOL filename was anything other than ",SW", do not
write an SSWAP.COM line for it.
Press CTRL-Z to save the file.
       8. Copy the CONFIG.SYS file to the root directory of the boot
drive you noted in step 2.
       9. Copy SSWAP.COM to the STACKER directory on the boot drive
           you noted in step 2.
       10. Type:
           ATTRIB -S -H -R drive:\DBLSPACE.BIN
           DEL drive:\DBLSPACE.BIN
where drive: is the drive letter you determined in step 2.
       11. Restart your system. The boot files will synchronize during
restart. To ensure all files are synchronized, restart again
until you no longer see any messages that files are being
updated. At this point your system is set up properly.

Remember that upgrading to Stacker for Windows & DOS 4.0 will
provide complete compatibility with Dac Easy Accounting, as well
as providing better disk compression and savings in conventional
memory. Multimedia Stacker 4.0 also includes a free copy of
Multimedia Cloaking from Helix Software that frees up even more
memory. Call 1-800-522-STAC to upgrade to Multimedia Stacker.
