REDMOND, Wash., September 8, 1994 - Stac Electronics
(NASDAQ:STAC),the leading supplier of compression products for
data storage and communication, today announced it will ship a
new version of Stacker specifically designed for Microsoft Corp.'s
Windows 95 operating system within 90 days of its release.

"Since Microsoft's investment in Stac, some people may have
thought that Stacker is, or would be, included in DOS or the new
Windows 95 operating system," said Gary Clow, Stac president and
chief executive officer. "That's just not true. The only way to
get Stacker today and in the future is from Stac or one of our
      OEMs."

The Stacker family of award-wining data compression products is
relied upon daily by millions of computer users worldwide to
increase the storage capacity of DOS, Windows, OS/2 and Macintosh
computers. Stacker is the first real-time, lossless compression
product to break the 2:1 compression barrier, and provides more
disk space than any compression product on the market today.

Stacker for Windows 95 will be a true 32-bit application,
featuring an enhanced user interface, and will take advantage of
the improvements offered in Windows 95, including long file
      names.

"By designing a version of Stacker specifically for Windows 95,
we think Stac will be able to deliver some exciting new benefits
to Windows users," said Paul Maritz, Microsoft senior vice
      president, systems division.

The majority of Stac's development team is dedicated to Windows
95 development which includes the new Stacker for Windows 95,
noted John Bromhead, Stac vice president of marketing.

"We realized early on that to be successful, products must be
designed from the start to take advantage of the special features
of Windows 95," said Bromhead. "Users can expect and will demand
much more functionality than mere Windows compatibility."

Stac and Microsoft signed a broad patent cross license agreement
in June 1994. The agreement included an equity investment of
$39.9 million in Stac by Microsoft, and a further $43 million in
royalty payments from Microsoft for the use of Stac's patents.
The Stacker application, however, was not licensed, and will not
be included in current or future versions of DOS or Windows.

Stac Electronics is the leading supplier of high performance
compression products for data storage and communications.
Implemented in software and silicon, Stac's products are sold
direct from the company and through retail and OEM sales
      distribution channels.
