Air Florida DC-9-30 for FS5.0A

Hi There! 15 Dec 1994 15 Dec 1994

This is my first upload to FSForum!

I recently downloaded Billy Ruggiero's FSEdit program for Flight
Simulator 5.0a.

I have found this program to be very good and useful to repaint
and regauge the handling characteristics and range for the
Simula Software DC-9.

PREVIEW..

In this file I have changed the fuel capacity to 200 gallons for
each aux tank and 400 gallons for each main tank. I have
increased the basic dry weight of this up to 10500 lbs and I
have increased the engine thrust from 10000 lbs to 12000 lbs.
This aircraft has been tested in the MS Caribbean scenery now
available for FS5. It handles heavily in hot weather. I have
tested it in 104 degree weather and at full thrust it rotates at
156 Knots.

The default overspeed/max speed have not been changed as it
stands pretty close to the real thing.

The handling qualities have not been changed; All are the same
as the default DC9 save for the Paint scheme/engine
settings/fuel capacity. The resulting changes make it very much
more like a real DC-9 in passenger/cargo revenue service with
just the right amount of fuel for short to medium range stage
flights.

A LITTLE HISTORY..

I chose to paint it as close to Air Florida markings as I could.
I remember Air Florida from years ago and they flew to various
sunny destinations throughout Florida, the U.S. East Coast, and
the Caribbean. Long range flights to Europe were flown with
DC-10-30 aircraft. Their short to medium range fleet consisted
mainly of Boeing 737-200 aircraft with a few DC-9-14/15/30 and
Boeing 727-200 aircraft used on short term leases to meet peak
demands and explore new markets. They were unfortunately one of
the first casualties in the post-Deregulation era, suffering a
terrible crash of a B737 in Washington DC in 1981, an Air
Traffic Controllers Strike, and slow economy all contributed to
it's demise. They filed for bankruptcy within a year or so after
and were then liquidated.

THE NITTY GRITTY..

How to use it:

1.) Unzip this file into a temporary directory you create such
as C:\Florida.

2.)Then create a temporary directory to backup the original
dc9simul.air file you are using for FS5.0a.

    For example: C:\ md temp_dc9

a.) Copy the original DC9 file you are using in FS5.0a into
this directory as a backup just in case this does not work and
you can get your "old" DC9 back! <G> This is very important.

3.)Then enter your FLTSIM5\SIM directory.

4.) Copy FLORIDC9.AIR from C:\Florida into C:\FLTSIM5\SIM
directory

5.) Then copy FLORIDC9.AIR over your DC9SIMUL.AIR file in that
directory.

     syntax: C:\FLTSIM5\SIM\ COPY FLORIDC9.AIR DC9SIMUL.AIR

     then Enter

6.) You have now copied the Air Forida DC9 over your standard
Alitalia DC9.

7.) After accomplishing this, start FS5 and go to the Aircraft
selection menu and select the DC-9. It should display a deep
blue with green striped DC-9 in the preview box.

That's it! Have a nice trip! To enhance the effect, Try the
MD-80/81 panels offered here in CIS by Peter Kruesi. They are
excellent!

8.) If you want your " old " DC-9 back, just copy the original
DC-9 files to a new "AIR" filename and then copy that new
filename into your FLTSIM5\SIM directory:

C:\temp_dc9\copy dc9simul.air alitalia.air

You now will have the original DC-9 back under a different file
name called ALITALIA.AIR

Or...delete the dc9simul.air file in the FLTSIM5\SIM directory
and then copy the original DC9SIMUL.AIR file you stored in
C:\temp_dc9 directory back to your FLTSIM5\SIM directory
OR...copy over it to be simpler, when it askes you to overwrite
the file, answer "Y" and you are back to your Alitalia DC-9 with
default settings.

I sincerely hope you like this!
I am currently working on several other modified DC-9's in the
colors of Midway,USAir,Hughes Airwest,New York Air,Republic,PSA,
as well as several others.

My Many thanks to Billy Ruggiero for his hard work in bringing
the FSEDIT program for the DC-9, as well as the people at Simula
Software for their hard work in making the DC-9 for FS5 possible.

Any questions regarding this aircraft can be brought to me via
Compuserve, my ID number is 74647,274. Happy Flying!
Sincerely,
