Eastern Airlines DC-9-30 For Flight Simulator 5.0A

26 Dec 1994

Hi There!

This is an uprated Simula Software DC-9-30 modified
using Billy Ruggiero's FSEdit program available here
on FSForum; EDITAC.ZIP. I have changed the paint
scheme to as close to the late, great, Eastern Airlines.

I have incorporated the following features:

Main Tank Fuel to: 455
 Aux Tank Fuel to: 290

Engine Thrust to: 14500
Basic Dry Weight: 10500

Aircraft Pitch Control to: 4000

The results of the above changes have produced an
aircraft that seems to have a slightly longer take-off
roll, and the pitch-up is not as pronounced;
as compared to my earlier Air Florida DC-9 and
Hughes Airwest DC-9.

THE NITTY GRITTY......
How to use it.

---------------------IMPORTANT------------------------
This aircraft is for use on FLTSIM5.0A.
The earlier version 5.0 is NOT compatible with this
aircraft.
------------------------------------------------------

After download from FSForum, unzip this file into
a temporary directory such as C:\EASTERN

Copy the file EASTNDC9.AIR to your FLTSIM5\SIM
subdirectory. That's it! <G>

Start FS5 and select the EASTNDC9.AIR in your
aircraft library. You should have a dark gray
with blue striped DC-9 spinning around in the
preview box below.

Have Fun!

If you have not obtained the FS5.0A update.
GO HOTGAMES here on Compuserve, and download
the FS50A.zip file. Unzip either into a temporary
directory or into the FLTSIM5 main directory.
Then install it. There is an extensive README file
that should be referenced for installation instructions.
Or call Microsoft and request the update on disk via
mail.

A LITTLE HISTORY....

Eastern Airlines operated a vast fleet of DC-9's.
Their primary DC-9 workhorse was -30 model. They also
operated a substantial number of DC-9-50 aircraft on
their higher density routes.

In 1987 their DC-9 fleet consisted of:
                    58 DC-9-30's
                    21 DC-9-50's

In addition, Eastern operated a large fleet of
Lockheed Tristar. Airbus Industrie A300, Boeing 727,
and 757 aircraft.

For a short time in the 1970's, Eastern operated a
few Boeing 747-100 aircraft.
Before it's demise in 1991, It operated 2 or 3
DC-10-30 aircraft on routes to Europe and South America.

Eastern was gifted with a long and proud history. It had
been operating since 1927.
Unfortunately, Eastern Airlines was forced to shut down
in early 1991. Severe financial difficulties finally forced
Eastern to capitulate. Many of it's former fleet are still
flying to this day in the service of other airlines.
Some others are awaiting rebirth into new service;
or fate at the cutter's torch.

THANK YOU'S .....

My many thanks go out to Billy Ruggiero for the FSEdit
program he created. I also wish to thank Simula Software
who produced the DC-9 for FS5.
