Note about piracy: Do not encourage pirate groups such as INC to distribute copyrighted games around BBS's. It is illegal and anti-social, destroying the creative will of game designers who spend months/years perfecting games. Pirates seem to think it's a national sport and have no remorse, so one can't appeal to them, but *you* the consumer can take a responsible attitude. It's easy to say "well it's only me, and I wouldn't buy it anyway" but there are millions of people just like you. If you want something, it is right that you should pay for it. BB sysops can play an even bigger part - large systems openly distribute pirated copyright software, especially in the US. Some turn a blind eye as it makes their systems popular but sponsoring such activity in that way is as bad as originating it. Now, on with the info: Introduction ------------ Clyde's adventures is an excellent game. The graphics are nice and colourful and the animation is fast and smooth. The screens are also very challenging, requiring a combination of skill, timing and problem solving. Thoroughly recommended. Anyway, when you run the game, to start with you can access any of the first three castles. To access the later castles, you need a certain number of gems. Ideally, you would try to solve each castle *and* collect all of the gems, but not everyone is patent enough to do both ! Here's how to hack the file to increase your gems so that you can access the later castles: Method ------ Use a HEX editor (such as Norton's NU) and load in the file called "VOLUME_1.CA". Find the bytes as the offsets shown below and alter them to your preference. Remember that each number consists of a hex low byte and high byte respectively. OFFSET MEANING ------------------------------------ 722 / 723 Level 1 Gems collected 724 / 725 Level 2 Gems collected 726 / 727 Level 3 Gems collected 754 / 755 Total Gems collected You must change the total gems as well as the individual gems as the total is calculated only when you complete a level. Don't change the total only as when it is recalculated, you'll lose gems. The additional doesn't actually need to correspond so I suggest you change all bytes all to 'FF 05' or whatever. Save the file and then run it ! Note: Clydes adventure is an excellent game; this hack shouldn't spoil you entertainment, it should simply halp those who have given up on a level - remember all levels can be completed so don't give up too soon as the answer is often staring you in the face !
