                       WHO WE ARE . . . WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

by Eugene A. Zeak, Jr, Editor

MICRONEWS is the first fully electronic publication in the area. It is
designed using hypertext technology and text is formatted for display on a
computer screen.

What that means for you is having complete freedom to browse at your will.
You do not have to read MICRONEWS in the traditional fashion, i.e.,
front-to-back. Using hypertext, and our skill at embedding references in the
text, you can make a hypertext jump anytime you see a highlighted area inside
angle brackets by pressing the ENTER key. After making the jump, you can
return to where you were reading . . . say, this screen, by pressing the Left
Arrow key. In fact, press the <ENTER> key now. When there is more than one
angle-bracketed filename on the screen, the first one will be highlighted.
You can selected others by using the Up or Down Arrow keys. Once the one you
want it high- lighted, press ENTER.

This, our premiere issue, brings the first part of an article for DOS begin-
ners. It explains what DOS is all about. There is also a Glossary of DOS and
Computer Terms to help the neophyte understand the technobabble. <ARTICLE 1 13>

Another offering is a poignant piece about learning. There's a lot there for
us all. <LEARN>

One of our regular features is an up-to-date list of bulletin board systems in
our area. Another is a review of recently released shareware programs you can
find on many of the bulletin boards. If, for any reason, you would rather get
the reviewed progams directly from us, you can. We give you complete instruc-
tions on how to elsewhere in this issue <SHRWR>.

There is no charge for MICRONEWS. If you wish the U.S. POSTAL SERVICE to
deliver it to you, we have to levy a modest charge to cover our expenses.
<SUBSCRIBE>

We also feature commercial advertising <AD_COM>. It's a great resource you
can use to "let your fingers do the walking" and call some of the finest
local computer establishments to ask about prices, equipment, etc.

We actively solicit your submitions. They can be articles, a column you think
our readers would like, or simply a letter. If you do submit something, we
ask that you complete and return the form letter <SUBMIT> we provide. This
gives us permission to publish your text. We will not publish it unless we
get this permission!

Also, one of the things we would like to add is a monthly "Letters to the
Editor" type column. That, however, will be up to you.

Oh yes, before I forget... All the files on this disk pertaining to
MICRONEWS (except GO.EXE, MENU, and HELP) are ASCII files. That means you
can print them out on your printer. Some files contain extended ASCII
characters, so that might confuse printers not capable of printing those. We
will include a printer utility in a future issue that will replace extended
ASCII charaters with asterisks, dashes, and the like.

One other thing. We are not a shareware dealer. We will make the programs we
review available for a limited period of time...usually for the issue's month.

If you wait two or three months and then send us an order for a program we've
reviewed, we may not have it. So, if you think you want one of the programs
we review, order it right away. Six bucks is not all that much! And,
remember, the $6.00 you remit to us does not register the program with the
author...you have to do that yourself. <SHRWR>

Press the Left Arrow key to return to the menu, or the ENTER key to jump to
the shareware reviews...
