Various techniques and devices that police use to detect speed
---------------------------------------------------------------

   1. Pace Car surveylance - This was the first and most simple
way to check someone for speeding. A police car would
simply fall in behind someone go as fast as they are
going then he takes a simple look at his speedometer.
If your going over 55 (on some highways its now 65) then
he could simply pull you over and issue you a citation.

   2. Visual Contact - This is also a simple means by which a
police officer observes drivers going both ways and
determines whether a car is speeding or not. (An easy
way they determine this is whether or not the car they
believe is speeding is passing or catching up with
other cars on the road.) Today many police take classes
in which they learn how to guess and determine a car's
      speed.

   3. Radar Check - A device that shoots a beam out at the
object and then bounces it back to the radar with a
digital speed number. They use one of two bands that
the radars work off of: X Band - A old band with short
range and it tends to leak out more...giving radar
detectors earlier signals. K Band - A new band with
longer range and less of a leakage is the new standard.
These are the only bands that the FCC has allowed for
this type of equipment so far. Radar detectors are
effective against a radar device as long as the radar
beam is on. New INSTANT ON RADARS shoot the beam at the
push of a trigger (also known as guns). Thus no beam
coming out until a car (maybe your own) is shot which is
when the radar will go off. If a car is shot ahead of you
your in luck. Because with a radar you will hear a warning
in time to slow down. The older constant on radars keep a
bea ou al th tim an wit goo radadetector
you may know as far as 2 miles away.
SUPERHETRODYNE RADAR DETECTORS ARE THE BEST, giving you
      longer detection range.

          2. The Escort $245 Cincinnati Microwave
          3. The Whistler Spectrum $295 by Whistler Corp.

          5. The Cobra Trapshooter $145 by Cobra Inc.
          6. The Bel MicroEye $185

   * Notice a radar detector is no liscense to speed, but more
     as a safety device.

      4. Aircraft Monitoring - Now employed in major cities
are aircraft to monitor highway speeding. Helicopters
as well as small airplanes are used and watch for
excessive speeders. Also watching for cars passing
         other cars at excessive speeds.

      5. Camera Tracking - Already used in some parts of Texas
as well as in Europe is a camera device that clocks a
car as it goes by and takes a picture of the license
plate if the car is speeding. The pictures are
collected and plates looked up as the speeders recieve
there tickets in the mail. The new device is made by
a company that calls the device "TOM SPEED". It is
usually placed on bridges hanging down.

      6. Stop Watch - Another way in use of checking for speed
is the use of stop watching. A particular car, maybe
unmarked sits aside on the side of the road and tells
another car down the road to start his stop watch. As
the car races down the road the first policeman tells
the other policeman what kind of car it is and its
plate number. If the car comes by the second cop at
a low time on the stop watch the policeman chases. A
time of travel is figured out if the car is going at
the speed limit, then if a car's time is lower than
that number then he or she is speeding.

      LAST MINUTE TIPS
-The fast lane is the passing lane or left lane,
           police watch this lane good.
-Take extra caution when approaching any town.
-Watch for unmarked cars and aircraft.
          -Be careful !!
