                        SnagIt - Version 1.3

"SnagIt" is a screen capture and screen print utility. Currently its
only been tested with an HP LaserJet II with 1.5 Mb of RAM.
Theoretically it should work with other Win30 printer drivers.

"SnagIt" gathers a 'region' of the screen and sends it to 'output'.

      Options                                   win.ini key word
   --------------------------------------------------------------
        'Device'                                Device=
   1) The Clipboard                             Clipboard
   2) Printer                                   Printer

         'Region'                               Region=
   1) The entire screen.                        Screen
   2) A selected rectangle.                     Region
   2) A window including                        Window
      non-client areas.
   3) Just the client area of Client
      the window.

        'Scaling'                               Scale=
   1) Best Fit                                  Best
   2) Screen Fit                                Screen
   3) User Scale (entered at runtime)

        'Output'                                Output=
   1) Monochrome                                Mono
   2) Color                                     Color
   3) Gray Scale                                Gray

If the printer device is selected you may select whether you want "SnagIt"
to scale the selected region.

Scaling option explanations:

   1) Best fit expands the 'region' to fill the output page.

   2) Screen fit scales the 'region' as though the entire screen was
      being printed as best fit. All printouts will have the same
      scale.

   3) User specified ratio. The user specified ratio is the ratio of
      printer pixels to screen pixels. The value must be an integer
      greater or equal to 1. The ratio value will be readjusted if it
      is too large to fit the image on the paper. For VGA and a
      standard 300 dpi printer the ratio is 3. Must be entered at
      runtime.

Generally it is a good idea to send monochrome output to a monochrome
device. The standard Windows 3.0 driver for the HP LaserJet II will
take color output but is no different than mono output. The standard
PostScript driver must have monochrome output because it appears to
ignores color.

Color output is supported. If you wish to simulate color on a
monochrome ouput device use the 'gray' option. "SnagIt" gray scales
the output by using a proprietary dithering technique producing 256
levels of gray. This technique is fairly involved and takes lots longer
to run. Each of the primary colors may be boosted/cut by a percentage
with the contrast dialog. Remember that boosting the color increases
the intensity which lightens the output.

Because the Windows Bit-Block transfer (BitBlt) routine converts every
pixel that is not the same as the background color to black, the output
may have more black than desired. When outputing to a monochrome device
the user may optionally specify a color threshold value from 0% to 100%
to lighten the output. A threshold of 0% will produce a blank output
while a value of 100% will be the same as the Windows BitBlt routine .
Because this is a pixel by pixel function specifing a color threshold is
slower than Windows default function.

Add a '[SnagIt]' section to your 'win.ini' file to change the defaults.
example:

[SnagIt]
Device=Printer
Region=Screen
Scale=Screen
Output=Mono

Note: The above settings are the program defaults.
