Changing Startup/Shutdown Logos The Easy Way By braCKett^

Upon reading the article on the same subject in the Astalavista website, I thought that there was an easy way than that explained in that tutorial. One that didnt needed that software. This by no means intends disrespect to anyone.

What you just have to do is to Find those files. The easy way: Click Start, point to Find and click Files And Folders.

Start ---> Find ---> Files And Folders

When the dialog pops up, write "logo*.sys" (without the quotes) in the Named field. Change the Look In field to "Local Hard Drives (C:,D:,E:), and hit Start. The program will show up atleast 2 files, named Logos.sys and Logow.sys. The first one i.e. Logos.sys, is the file that displays the "Its now safe to turn off your computer" screen. The second one displays the "Windows is shutting down" file. Before proceeding any further, make sure to make backups of both the files, incase you need them again ;).

Double click on any one. Windows will popup the "Open With" dialog. Scroll downwards until you find the MSPAINT icon. Select MSPAINT, and then click OK. Don't, I repeat don't, select the "Always use this program to open this type of file". Windows will now open this file in Paint. To paste your own bmp, go to Edit, then select Paste From. Browse to your required file, and then click Open. Paint will open the file on top of that shutdown screen. Edit as necessary. Remember to make the attributes of your new image file 320x400 or it would appear distorted or lengthened. Then save that file. Shutdown your computer, and hola! there you have that new image!
