2. GENIUS V1.0 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to run Genius v1.0, your system must meet these specifications:

o An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows.

o Windows NT 4 (or higher) or Windows 95 installed and
     configured on your system.

o A mouse or other pointing device

2.1 Package Contents

Included in the Genius installation file are the following files:

file_id.diz Describes the contents of the archive file.
  readme.txt This file.
  setup.exe Genius v1.0 installation program.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
3. GETTING HELP
----------------------------------------------------------------------
3.1 Genius v1.0 Help File

Genius v1.0 comes with (I think) a fairly complete help file. I have
tried to make the interface as intuitive as possible, so hopefully
the help file won't be needed much.

If you are wondering something about a utility, hit F1, and Genius will
open the help file to the appropriate topic. If you don't know what a
button does, try holding your mouse over it for about half a second.
A tool tip will pop up, telling you what that button does.

3.2 Tech Support

If you have found a bug, please mail me about it at messiah@jps.net

  Be sure to include:

o Your name, and e-mail address.

o Your hardware and software configuration.

o A description of the problem, and what you were trying to do when
     the problem occurred.

o If there are any error messages, please copy the message, or if
it is a graphical problem, please attach a screenshot.

Please, please, please, do *not* do any of these:

o Ask me how to do something - the help file is sufficient, and any
problems you have can easily be worked out with a little bit of
     futzing around.

o Say there is a bug in Genius but not tell me what, or not give me
any details. I cannot see what's on your screen, so please...
     describe it to me.

o Ask me to teach you to program/hack/phreak/etc. I don't consider
myself knowledgable enough to teach, and I'm not a hacker/phreaker.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
4. WHAT'S NEW
----------------------------------------------------------------------
v1.0 This is the first non-beta release of Genius and I'm
rather nervous, really. I hope it all goes well. Remember,
if you have any bugs, DO NOT HESTITATE to let me know.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
5. KNOWN PROBLEMS OR LIMITATIONS
----------------------------------------------------------------------

o People who are using ISDN connections might have a problem with
Genius needing RAS32.DLL or RAS*.*. If you have this problem,
let me know, and I will compile an ISDN-only version. I did not
take into account the special needs of the poor people who have
full-time connections at ridiculously high speeds. Poor bastards.

o The Port Scanner will sometimes not work (more often than not) if
you have Microsoft Winsock 2.x. This is something I've tried hard
to fix, but I don't think it'll be fixed any time soon.

o If you have a finger server or identd server running and you turn
Genius's finger or identd server on, it will give you an error
message. More robust error handling in the future, I guess.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
6. SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
----------------------------------------------------------------------
6.1 Installation Instructions

The Genius installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
application. You must have Windows NT 4.0 (or higher) or
Windows 95 installed prior to installing Genius. Setup will
automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
appropriate files during the install. To install Genius,
  perform the following steps:

  1. Run setup.exe from the Genius ZIP archive. This is the installation
program, and should look fairly familiar.

6.2 Installed Files

The Genius setup program copies the following files to your
  computer during installation:

  genius.exe Genius v1.0 Application File
genius.hlp Windows Help file for Genius v1.0
genius.cnt Windows Help contents file for Genius v1.0
history.txt History of Genius ("What's New"s from previous versions)
licence.txt Usage licence for Genius v1.0
  readme.txt This file
whatsnew.txt A list of changes since the last version
install.log Log file used by the uninstall program
unwise.exe Uninstall program used by Windows

6.3 Uninstall Instructions

If after installing Genius, you find it necessary to remove
the software from your computer, perform the following steps:

Uninstall instructions for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0

  1. Run the Windows Control Panel

  2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.

  3. Select Genius v1.0 from the list of applications that can
     uninstalled by Windows.

  4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall Genius v1.0.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
7. FUTURE VERSIONS
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would like to think that Genius will be a long-lived piece of software,
and I'd like your help in making it so. If you would like to see a utility
in Genius, please send me some mail about it. I don't want to put things
like an email or FTP client, because those deserve to be stand-alone
applications. I want to add small utilities you've always been looking for
to Genius. Please don't ask me to add Denial of Service program into Genius,
becuase that's totally not what it's about. It's about having a good, free,
utils package that just generally rocks.

There are some things I'd like to add:

  o More functionality
o Ability to change passwords in Passwords
  o Better error handling, etc.

So thanks for using Genius, and don't hesitate to send me some feedback. I
  positively thrive on it.
