PalmDraw Conversion Tools 1.0 Alpha 3

Here is a crude but usable program which allows you to
convert PalmDraw pictures to Windows Metafiles (WMF)
or Enhanced Windows Metafiles (EMF)

Alpha 3

Added support for the freehand drawing tool
	introduced in PalmDraw 1.0b7

Alpha 2

Added compatibility for people not using
Generic Conduit Manager (lets you open
	database named with backup condiut.)

Here is a crash course in PalmDraw Convert:

1.	For more up-to-the-date info and docs on this
program, check out the PalmDraw Page at:

	http://www.oai.com/bkg/Pilot/PalmDraw

2. This program is ALPHA so don't expect it to
	be perfect.

3. Where is my PalmDraw.pdb file???

IF you are using Generic Conduit Manager, it
will be whereever you configured GCM to place
	the PalmDraw data file.

If you are *NOT* using Generic Conduit Manager,
you *MUST* be running PalmDraw 1.0b6 or higher!
If you do not, your PalmDraw Database will not
be copied to your computer when you hotsync.

If you do have 1.0b6 or higher, It will be
in your "Backup" folder where you Pilot data
files are backed up. This is usualy something
	like:

	C:\Pilot\XXXX\Backup

...Where "XXXXX" is some weird piece of your
name - (usualy last name and First Initial.)
If your unsure where it is, look there. Else
it should be in a folder off of where your
Pilot Desktop and HotSync apps are.

Once HotSynced, there should be a file
	called "PalmDraw_Picts.pdb" in this folder.
	this is your PalmDraw database.

4.	This program is shareware - licenced free
	to registered users of PalmDraw,

5.	Some programs dont do a great job of reading
in metafiles or enhanced metafiles - so if
you import a metafile into a program and it
doesn't look to good - it may be me - it may
be the importer on your program. I would
	suggest trying a different program.

6.	The original Windows Metafile Format (WMF)
does not support bezier curves! The will
not export at all. It us recomended that
you use the Enhanced Metafile Format (EMF)
	which does support beziers.

7.	It seems that with Corel Draw, it will not
import beziers, even with EMF files. Maybe
I am doing something wrong, but they work
	with other programs...

8.	To use the conversion program, once have
have installed GCM, set it up for PalmDraw
and hot-synced your Pilot, you should have
a copy of your PalmDraw database in a file
	called "PalmDraw.pdb" (Probibly located in
	c:\Pilot\YourName\PalmDraw)

When you launch PalmDraw Convert, you will
be asked to locate this file.

9.	When you select and open the file, it will
display a list of pictures on your Pilot.
Select one then press "Import...". You will
be propted to specify a destination path
and filename, and choose a file type. (WMF
or EMF.) Hit "Save" and your done!

10.	The Import function does not work yet -
	hopefuly it will soon!

11.	This is a Windows-95 app. It should work
on NT and 4.0, but will not on 3.1.

Good luck!
