PalmMap 1.0 Summary of Features:

* Street and Intersection Search
* User-definable SignPosts and TrailMarkers
* Compass Rose revealing longitude/latitude coordinates
* Accurately scaled zooming and navigation

***********************************************************************
PalmMap 1.0 Usage Instructions:

Street & Intersection Search:
-----------------------------------
From Map View: Command Stroke S and top line menu
Here is where the power of PalmMap 1.0 is immediately noticed. Start
writing in part of a street or street intersection name, select it from
a list and go to the map. Using the '@' symbol between streets joins
them for an intersection search.

SignPost:
-----------------------------------
From Map View: Command Stroke N and top line menu
Once a location is identified you may choose to permanently mark it
with a SignPost. This allows for future display and easy location.
A small S in a dark square located in the upper left corner of the
screen indicates this function is in use.

TrailMarker:
-----------------------------------
Command Stroke B (begin) E (end) & top line menu.
With TrailMarkers you may manually identify/mark a route between
points A&B. Additionally you may apply one star needed for tight
places to mark an office within a complex or corporate campus.
A small T in a dark square located in the upper left corner of the
screen indicates this function is in use.

Compass Rose:
-----------------------------------
Top line menu.
Used in ancient times to signify North on a compass this feature
identifies the points of the compass on your map. The Compass Rose
also lets the user touch the screen and see the coordinates in
Longitude & Latitude. Now you really know where you are! To exit
this mode, simply reselect "Compass Rose" from the top line menu.

Remove TrailMarker, SignPost, Street & Intersection names:
-----------------------------------
You may remove each individual Marker by tapping the Marker name
and selecting "hide" in the dialog box which appears. To clear
the current display of all street and intersection names, simply use
command stroke 'C' or select "Refresh View" from the top line menu.

Navigation:
-----------------------------------
Hard buttons and touch screen.
North/South navigation is performed by using the hard up/down buttons.
The meter on the lower left indicates PalmMap is rendering and to
give it a second. The DateBook and Address hard buttons navigate
West and East respectively. Navigation is also possible via the
touch screen by tapping the map screen at the outer edges.
For quick navigation, get comfortable using SignPosts and TrailMarkers
to jump to the desired point of interest.
Tip: If you like you may use one TrailMarker star to identify something.

Zoom:
-----------------------------------
Command Stroke I and O also see below.
There are four methods used to zoom:
1. Zoom incrementally via the top line menu
2. Zoom quickly via the top line menu
3. Zoom quickly via the ToDo & Memo hard buttons
4. Zoom incrementally by setting the user definable miles per inch
scale on the PalmMap 1.0 main screen.
For quick one handed navigation use the ToDo button to jump to a local
view (very close) or use the Memo button for county viewing (way out).
Command strokes are also available.

Markers Database:
-----------------------------------
Command Stroke M and top line menu
Now that you have identified and saved the SignPosts and TrailMarkers,
use them often to quickly locate a place of interest. Using the
Markers Database you can even select the "center on" button to place
the SignPost or TrailMarker in the middle of the viewable map.

Scale Settings:
-----------------------------------
An accurate scale display in miles per inch allows you to quickly
estimate travel time and distance between points.

Vector based maps:
-----------------------------------
PalmMap 1.0 maps were generated using vector-based data.
Multiple maps can be loaded into the PalmPilot/WorkPad and retrieved
from the main screen popup-list. It should be noted that great effort
has been made wherever possible to reduce file/map size to a minimum.
Therefore in the current version rivers, streams, parks, forests, lakes,
etc. are not displayed.

Map source data was originally published in 1990 with revisions and
updates in 1992, 1994 and 1995. While this data is very accurate it
should be understood that some roads are not covered. A very good use
of TrailMarkers is to identify new roads, etc.
