  The saga of Gerbil
Some students in my school who did not know how to program like to search the InterNet to find TI-82 games. One of them has come to me a couple of times with some kind of error. One time he came to me with a game called "Snake" which was a TI-82 version of the QBasic game Nibbles. The code was a mess, the program jumped all around the code with gotos and was completely messed up. I realized that it would be easier (and a lot more satisfying) to make my own version, so I started on Gerbil. Of course I can't take full credit because there is already Nibbles. I have seen others glued in front of their calculators playing this game. Originallly I wanted to make this a 2 player game (hence the 1UP X) but I ran out of variables! I hate that.
Now you can enjoy the satisfaction of recharging up at the 10 level mark, unfortunately I can't link up and send you the program direct so you'll have program it in yourself. Tell me if you have any problems or suggestions to make by e-mailing me at rbarker@polarnet.com. Oh, and if you think this game is worthy, give it to all your friends!

  How to play Gerbil
Use the arrow keys to turn Gerbil.
Pick up the spinning seeds to get points and move up in levels by touching them.
Don't run into walls, obstacles or yourself.
You have 1 minute to get each seed, after that, your finished.

Every time you get a seed you will grow (your back will stop moving but your front will continue for a ways). In fact, every seed you get will make you grow even more than the first time! Harder still, after every Recharge point (10 levels) you will find your self growing even more! This will make things difficult for Gerbil, you'll find yourself tying him in knots and killing him!

The status bar across the top of the screen tells you how many lives and points you have, what level number and name you are currently on, and which seed you are on. After you grab seed 9 you will proceed to the next level. Every time you get a seed you will get a number of points: the seed number x 10 + an additional point for every 12 seconds you have not wasted. You will also get 50 points for completing each level. You are timed, the timer is the black line to the left of the playing area. When the line disappears you will die. Every time you get a seed your time will refill itself.

Every 10 levels you will hit a recharge point. This will play a little effect before your time is refilled. 3 things will happen after this: you will start over at the first board, the game will get harder (you will grow more), and, yes, finely, you will earn a free guy!

One last thing, if, at your Game Over, you beat your previous high score you will get a high score recharge. At this time you will loose all your points but start over at your current level with 5 free guys!

*** Keep list 6 clear of all data not put in by the program! Human entered data will screw up the high score feature.

I will post alternate board programs on my Gerbil page for those who get tired of this board program.22mBv?6lv(,-vtemp0001c+YL,
